Beulah Ostrus Obituary

Beulah Mae Ostrus went to be with her Lord on Sept. 12, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at the Exira Care Center.
Beulah was born on Dec. 12th, 1931 in Atlantic, the daughter of Harlie and Esther (Nelsen) Cue. She attended Atlantic Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1951. While attending high school, Beulah proudly worked at Enockson's Ice Cream Shop where she met her future husband, Ronald Ostrus. Beulah waited for Ron while he served in the United States Air Force, and while Ron was on military leave, the couple were married on October 10th, 1951. To this union they were blessed with 4 children, Kathryn, Raymond, Gary, and Douglas.
After Ron was discharged from the Air Force the couple started farming southeast of Wiota. Beulah was very content being a loving farmwife, raising the children, cooking, baking and gardening. However, Beulah was not afraid of helping with the farm work, such as, doing spring tillage and hauling ear corn to the corncrib in the fall. Ron and Beulah had such wonderful and helpful neighbors that they formed a neighborhood pinochle card club which went on for years.
Beulah was a member of the Wiota United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was active in countless roles which included teaching Sunday School, Bible School and Church Youth Group. Her involvement in the United Methodist Women group landed her in numerous leadership positions. Beulah devoted many years to the U.M.W. District, holding various offices in the Council Bluffs District. As district president, she enjoyed traveling across Southwest Iowa and speaking to U.M.W. groups. She attended the "School of Christian Missions" and brought that knowledge back to Wiota, Anita and Atlantic.
After Ron retired in 1991, they enjoyed wintering in Port Lavaca, Texas and made lifelong snow bird friends. Beulah started volunteering for the Cass County Hospital Auxiliary in 1968, serving as president in 1993, where she volunteered over 10,000 hours, working at the coffee shop, delivering mail to patients, helping as a greeter and directing patients and visitors. In 1976, Beulah volunteered as chairman of the country's Bicentennial celebration in Wiota. For 18 years, Ron and Beulah delivered meals on Wheels in Cass County.
Beulah's family was always the most important thing in her life! She always made Christmas, Fourth-of-July, and birthday parties so very special for her family.
Beulah is survived by her children, Kathryn Ostrus, Raymond (Patricia) Ostrus and Douglas (Elizabeth) Ostrus; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one more great grand and two more great-great grandchildren are expected in the near future; sister-in-law, Lois Anson; and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Ronald; her parents; infant son, Gary Richard; brothers, Don Cue and Leland Cue; and also sister and brother-in-law, Leila and Kenneth Christensen.
Visitation with family present will be Thursday night, Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Funeral services will be the following morning, Friday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Rolands followed by burial at the Atlantic Cemetery. Pastor Jessica Wietzke from Wiota United Methodist Church will preside over the services. The family welcomes those in attendance for a luncheon back at the funeral home, after the burial.
The service will be recorded and available on the funeral home website by Monday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
