Doris Krogman Obituary
Doris M. Krogman, 78 of Atlantic, formerly of Remsen, passed away at Cass Health in Atlantic, on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025.
Doris was born Oct. 5, 1946, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars., to Lloyd Kriege of Remsen, and Martha Kriege (Konz) of Granville. She graduated from Remsen Union High School in 1964 and attended Westmar College. She later attained an associate's degree from NCC in Sheldon.
She married James Joseph Krogman of Alton, on Aug. 6, 1966, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. They resided in Orange City for two years. For a period of one year she was a single parent, working and raising their newborn son, John, while James served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon James' discharge, they made their home in Alton for the next 16 years.
She was an active member of the Alton community while raising her family, along with serving as a second mother to countless children that inevitably came through the revolving front door of the Krogman home.
In 1986, the family moved to the Krogman farm as it was the dream of Jim's to own and restore the historic Krogman farm. Doris was initially reluctant, but over the course of the next 30+ years, it was their mutual labor of love. They restored it to a rural oasis and nature preserve that was admired and enjoyed by all.
Doris served in multiple management positions at NW Mutual Insurance and Alton Home & Lumber. She continued her career as a Commercial Supervisor for 25 years with Westel Systems in Remsen, until her retirement in 2011.
She was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. She was a volunteer with many organizations in her lifetime, including the Cub Scouts of America and the Cass Health Auxiliary. She was also a very active member of the Democratic Party, an avid conservationist, and a defender of human rights.
Doris was a true warrior in every sense of the word. Her friends and family admired her for her love of family, selfless attitude, and her unwavering resiliency in times of medical hardship. She was truly a benevolent mother, relative, friend or acquaintance.
