Nancy Wohlenhaus Obituary

Nancy Carol (Andre) Wohlenhaus, 70, of rural Atlantic, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at the CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy in Omaha, Neb.

Nancy was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Mt. Ayr, to Rev. William L. and Doris (Rush) Andre. She graduated from Logan-Magnolia High School with the class of 1970. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City. On May 27, 1972, she was married to Richard Charles Wohlenhaus in St. Charles. Nancy lived in many places in the state of Iowa while growing up as her father served numerous Methodist churches throughout Iowa. All her married life she resided in the Atlantic, Cumberland, Griswold, and Lewis area, where she and Charles farmed.

Once her children were older, Nancy served as a special education aide for the Griswold and Cumberland-Anita-Massena school districts. Nancy was an accomplished pianist, organist, and piano teacher. She served as an organist for many churches for over 50 years. Among the churches she served as an organist were St. John's United Church of Christ, the Atlantic United Church of Christ, and St. Peter's United Church of Christ. Several of her piano students have gone on to have successful careers in music. Nancy was a member of the Tuesday Music Club, the National Federation of Music Clubs, and the St. John's United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed performing and teaching music, working with children, and spending time with her family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Charles Wohlenhaus, and her father, Rev. William L. Andre.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Stephen) Wohlenhaus Bloomberg of Des Moines; her son, Neil Wohlenhaus of Windom, Minn.; her granddaughter, Vanessa Bloomberg of Des Moines; her mother, Doris Andre of Des Moines; her sister, Karen Knapp of Clive; an aunt, Ruth Fromm of Camarillo, Calif.; and numerous cousins and relatives.

Visitation with the family will be from 9-11 a.m. on Dec. 1 with a Funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 1 and a luncheon immediately following all at Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic. Interment will take place at Atlantic Cemetery.
