Joyce Booen Obituary

Joyce A. Booen
1942 - 2013

Booen, Joyce A., age 70, of Roseville, passed away after a courageous battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She had previously had Lymphoma and Shingles, which almost took her life but she fought hard and survived, as she did until the end, but as she always said "when the Lord decides it is time I will join him". Joyce was born in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio on September 6, 1942, along with her twin sister who passed away shortly after birth, to Paul and Dena Murphy. When she was 4 they moved to San Francisco, where she attended school and after graduating from high school she came to Roseville, and remained there primarily until her death. She retired in 2003 from McClellan AFB, where she worked as a Nuclear Radiologist.
She is survived by the love of her life, husband Gene Booen, who she was married to for 23 glorious years; brothers Don and Glen; son Michael (Vicki) Booen; daughters Lisa (Jeff), Jeanne (Richard), Michelle (Tex), Janelle (Gordie); grandsons, Matthew, Eric, Kyle, Brett, Buddy; granddaughters Tanya, Sarah and Jackie; one great-granddaughter; and five great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her and will remember her forever, and ever. Amen.
Joyce was very active in the many clubs and committees, of Sun City Roseville, especially the Needle Arts Club and the Friendship group Strippers and Rippers. She also worked for many years as a monitor for the association and also the Neighborhood watch and citizens patrol office. It was said that she knew almost everyone in Sun City. Gene and Joyce were square dancers for all the life they had together and were very active in the local Mavericks Club, the local Association and the California Square Dance Council, where they served in many offices and were Presidents of the council for three years and were to finish their term in September, which Joyce was determined to be there for the final day in office. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the California Square Dance Scholarship fund or the lymphoma/leukemia society.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St Peter & Paul church on Granite Drive in Rocklin, on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10 a.m., with Father Dillon, and a reception will be held after the mass in the church auditorium. A private burial will be held on Tuesday September 3, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Dixon. The family wishes to thank the Sutter Hospital oncology section, the Sutter Hospice and VNA for the loving care they provided and for all who sent cards and the prayers that came her way.
