Terry Pollack Obituary

Terry Pollack
1/21/1943-2/1/2010

Terry Pollack, 67, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2010 in Auburn, California. He was a much-loved father, grandfather and friend. Terry is remembered by friends, family and acquaintances for his wit, humor and ability to fill a room with his presence.
Born in New York City in 1943 to Joseph and Theresa Pollack, his adoring parents, Terry was ever-proud of his New York roots. A graduate of Valley Stream High School in Long Island, New York and a student of Liberal Arts at Stonybrook University, Terry always enjoyed lively debates on the latest topics of the day. Born into a strongly Democratic and pro-Union family, Terry carried a strong commitment to the plight of working people with him throughout his life. He was proud to be an early and loyal supporter of President Barack Obama.
Terry proudly served his country in the Army Reserves and worked in the financial industry. In 1973, he moved to San Francisco and later to Oakland. Terry developed a deep and abiding love for the City of Oakland and its people. A beloved and regular bartender at many downtown establishments, including The Mint Julep and The Ringside, Terry was a familiar face in downtown Oakland.
Terry was very proud to be the father of Justine (Anderson) and Suzy (Loftus). He loved playing card games with his daughters, especially Gin Rummy. (Justine could beat him by the age of 9!). Terry helped cultivate a love of baseball in his youngest daughter, Suzy, by taking her to right field at the Coliseum to watch Jose Canseco and Mark McGuire play for the Oakland A's. An avid baseball fan, Terry participated in (and even won!) his beloved baseball league, he enjoyed playing darts, singing karaoke and spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling the country, including memorable visits to New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and many lovely trips to Arizona.
Terry left the Bay Area in 2001 to move to the Sierra Foothills. Fond memories from this period include playing Monopoly with his grandson, Kody and teasing his granddaughters Jamie and Jordan.
Despite slowing down in recent years due to his battle with heart disease, Terry remained active and engaged with his community of friends at the Auburn Ravine Terraces. It was there that he would proudly show off his most recent granddaughters, Maureen, Vivienne and Grace.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Pollack and is survived by his daughters, Justine and Suzy, his grandchildren Jamie (Age 17), Jordan (Age 15), Kody (Age 12), Maureen (Age 5), Vivienne (Age 2) and Grace (Age 5 months).
We will be holding a celebration of Terry's life on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in Auburn, California. Friends who would like to attend are invited to please email [email protected] for the details. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Salvation Army at 1-800-Sal-Army.
