Alexander Janas Obituary

Alexander R. Janas, Jr.

Feb. 28, 1947 - April 22, 2024

AUBURN - Alexander R. Janas, Jr., 77, a lifelong resident of Auburn, NY, passed away on April 22, 2024, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY, with his sons and surrogate daughter at his bedside. Allie was born on February 28, 1947, the only child of the late Rose (Fronczek) and Alexander R. Janas, Sr.

He resided on Bradford Street most of his life and graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1966, where he was on the baseball and football teams. Under his senior photograph in his high school yearbook his teachers wrote, "He hurries not, he worries not, his calm is undisturbed."

He retired from Hammond & Irving in 2017 after nearly 50 years with the company. He was President of his labor union.

He is survived by sons: David (Sue) and Robert (Teresa) Janas; surrogate daughter, Jennifer (Patrick) Richardson; grandchildren: Andrew (Erica), Connor, Ian, DJ, Josephine, Alexandra, Zayden and Zion; ex-wife, Rosemary Janas; stepchildren: Michael, Jennifer and Holly; and many cousins, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Allie had many dear friends that he considered to be family, especially at the Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn, NY. Allie enjoyed chatting with his friends and family, chess, painting, fishing, puzzles and games, and telling Dad jokes. Family and friends will remember him as a sweet, good-natured, and generous man, who possessed a strong character and took care of the people around him.

In addition to his parents, Allie was also predeceased by his ex-wife, Peggy (Sweeney) Richardson, and his best friend, Robbie Relfe.

Allie is a bone and connective tissue donor for cancer patients.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in Auburn, NY.
