Alma M. Pearce

AUBURN | Alma M. (Superko) Pearce, 91, of Aldrich Avenue, Auburn, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Cayuga County Nursing Home. Alma was born and raised in Glen Lyon, Pa. and was the daughter of the late Edward and Rose Burkett Superko. She was a graduate of the former Bozart Cosmetology School in Syracuse and practiced as a licensed beautician in her early twenties. She relocated to central New York in her mid-twenties and later married local dairy farmer, Charles Pearce, at the age of 29. She was a homemaker and mother of four children, an advocate of charity and higher education and displayed a tenacious work ethic to her children and grandchildren.

Alma was a cherished mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend in the local community. Throughout her life, she spent her time culminating her culinary skills, gardening, and practicing as a retired beautician by offering her service to family. Alma shared her interest in literature, trivia, and fitness/nutrition, as these were a few of her passions. Vivacious with youthful energy, Alma would attend to various household and outdoor tasks throughout the day, appearing tireless. She was a woman of few words, with a strong presence and spiritual connection. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a practicing Catholic throughout her life.

Alma demonstrated faith, the utmost poise and dignity even when enduring pain and multiple changes at the end of her life. Her spirit and vitality will forever resonate with her close friends and family.

She is survived by her four children, Richard (Theresa) Pearce, of Gales Ferry, Conn., Rhonda Pearce, of Auburn, Jill (Terrance) Bellnier, of Rochester, and Nina (Richard Gunger) Yantch, of Auburn; a sister, Arlene Superko, of Gloversville; grandchildren, Cynthia Malek, Lindsay (Frank) Walters, Nicolette Yantch, and Frank Bellnier; a great grandson, Cayden Walters; Christopher Yantch, the father of Alma's grandchildren, Lindsay and Nicolette, and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Alfred and Robert Superko and by her twin brother, Alexander Superko.

There are no calling hours and private family services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to the Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn or to Hospice of the Finger Lakes,1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, in memory of Alma. Entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum.
