Anna Wejko Obituary

AUBURN < Anna Panko Wejko died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006. She was the wife of Elias Wejko, daughter of Ivan Romanovich Panko, and Nastasia Ivanova Panko, sister of Mary (deceased), Tecla of Ukraine, Eva Lemik of Little Falls. Loving mother, teacher and friend to her children, "Baba" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, has left us to be with God and our dad, whom she has so sorely missed. Mom loved tending to her many fruit trees and berry bushes. She grew the best raspberries ever. Whenever you went home, you would feel as if you were her one and only. She so loved her family. There isn"t a wall space in her home that doesn"t have a photo of a child, grandchild, or great grandchild. Anna along with her husband, Elias, and first born son, Stephen, came to America from the Ukraine in 1947, and lived in Dolgeville for several years, before making Auburn their home. Elias built the family home at 166 Cottage St. where the family grew to include six children. Family life was full of love, pirohis, pancakes in the morning, and a strong Ukrainian upbringing. God sent for Elias in 1964. With deep mourning the family survived with the devotion and loving care of our mother Anna. She brought us through many hard times, never allowing anything else to stand in her way. We are her loving children, and will always remain as such in life and in death. She supported each of us in her own special way, and touched the hearts of anyone who was blessed to meet her. To those fortunate people, she was warmly referred to as "Baba." It was not unusual to see her patching her roof, building a shed, or digging in her garden. She loved gardening and canning, and always had peaches and pears for our eating pleasure. She is the mother of six children, Stephen and Janette Gleason Wejko, and John and Kelly (Bishop) Wejko, of Auburn, Marion and Mick Towner of Rochester, Olga Cramer of Auburn, Tecla and Alfred Lucignani of Florida, Michael and Kim Wejko of Auburn; grandchildren, Tina and Thad Crowe, Steven Wejko Jr., James and Eileen Cramer, Andrea and Bill Ruff, Jadion and Wallace Thompson, Seth Wejko and Hope, Michael Wejko Jr. and Jolene, Luke Wejko and Kim, Amy Jo Molloy; great-grandchildren, Sierra Wejko Devon and Noah Crowe, Alexa Wejko, Anastasia Lucignani, Warrick Thompson, Johnathon and Zoe Wejko, Mya Wejko, Alexander Wejko, Atticus Wejko, and a great-grandchild to arrive soon. She also leaves her dear friend, Rose Bilinski. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Elias; her sister Mary, and niece Anna; her great niece, Angela; grandson, Scotty; her second husband, Steven Berdy; and many family members in the Ukraine, Funeral services for Anna will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, in SS. Peter & Paul Church. Burial will be in Fort Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the Plis Funeral Home, 220 State St. "Anna wishes for all of "Her Family" to join us in this time of Happiness, for she has truly found peace, which she so deserved." "Love"s family, there is one family that never dies, love"s father, love"s mother, love"s sister, love"s brother, love"s children, love"s grandchildren, loves great-grandchildren, love"s friends." "When she entered heaven the angles sang, Nohia Lita, Nohia Lita."

Feb. 2 2006, At this time I would ike to thank all of you who shared in our mothers life. She will be missed by many. She so enjoyed socializing with anyone who would listen to her stories. I wish those of you who shared in her storytelling would write me about them.. I am compiling a book in our mothers honor to be shared by anyone who wishes to. I have many stories of her life and her "adventures" in the Ukraine. I so enjoyed her telling me these tales and would like to share them with you. Mom was a remarkable woman. I know the gardens in Heaven are already flourishing from her loving care. Tato, take good care of mom. We all miss her so very much...Nohia Lita, Nohia Lita.

My sincere condolances, to the Wejko Family, and the extended families. Growing up on Cottage Street with "Baba's" Grandadughter Tina, was an experience of a lifetime! The whole family was just as much my family. I read Baba's obituary, and I cried, not because of her passing, but, because of the wonderful life She had lived, and I knowing, I was a part of that life. Baba would treat me as though I too, was one of her Grandchildren. I remember going to her home with Tina, and She would always expect myself to eat, eat, eat!!!! Even if I was not hungry, She still made me!!. I too, rememeber seeing her tending to her garden, picking her fruit trees, and raspberry bushes. Looking back now, I think Tina, and I would go there daily, just to here her talk of back in the days when she was in the Ukraine, and of course for us to eat! She will always be with us in our memories, and hearts. God Bless BABA!!!! With Love, Connie Lynne
