Cecelia Krasniak Obituary
Cecelia T. Krasniak
January 23, 1927 - October 16, 2025
Cecelia T. Krasniak, 98 years old, passed away at home on October 16, 2025 after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Auburn, she was born on January 23, 1927, the daughter of Leon and Karolina Dec. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Walter, Joseph, and Stanley.
Growing up on Pulaski Street, she attended St. Hyacinth School and West High. She worked for many years at Dunn and McCarthy until her retirement.
Cecelia's family was her whole world. She was a most devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St Hyacinth Church. In 1951 she married Walter Krasniak with whom she enjoyed 53 years of marriage. After raising their four children and caring for her parents, she and Walter moved from her childhood home to their residence on Capitol Street. Over the years their shelves overflowed with family photos and souvenirs. They fondly recalled their many travels including a tour of Europe for their 25th anniversary and Hawaii for their 50th as well as trips to Poland and throughout the US from Alaska to Florida, Maine to Arizona.
Despite the many travels, Cecelia's home was the centerpiece of her life. An immaculate house and delicious Polish cooking brought comfort and happiness to her family, especially as it grew from four children to include spouses and 12 grandchildren plus 11 great- grandchildren. Christmases and Easters saw tables overflowing with barszcz, kielbasa, kapusta, pierogi and pastries, especially her light as air babka. No one ever left with an empty stomach!
After losing her husband in 2004, she entered a new phase of her life but never skipped a beat. She maintained her home and gardens and was a frequent visitor at her children's homes. Grandchildren and then great-grandchildren were a constant presence in her life; with her prodigious memory and old-fashioned punctuality, she never forgot a birthday or anniversary. You knew who sent you the card by the colorful stickers on the envelope!
She is survived by her children, Mike (Kathy), Carl (Lidia), Elaine Rice (Timothy) and Steve (Janet); grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle, Andrew, Peter, Christopher, Madeline, Meghan, Courtney, Caitlin, Ellen, Anne, and Carolyn; and great-grandchildren, Cecelia, Grace, Timmy, Catherine, Lillian, Georgia, Henry, Jack, Eliza, Blaire, Sally Krasniak.
Funeral arrangements are with Plis Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Hyacinth Church on October 24th at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass. Please remember Cecelia in your prayers and, if possible, with a donation to Hospice or St. Hyacinth Church.
