PALM COAST, Fla. -Edward J. Walsh, 72, of 27 Ryecrest Lane, Palm Coast, Fla., a resident since 2002, died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Florida Hospital-Flagler.
Mr. Walsh was born in Auburn, where he spent most of his life. An Army veteran, he served in Germany from 1951 to 1953.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Walsh was a letter carrier for the Auburn Post Office. He also was employed at Auburn's daily newspaper, The Citizen-Advertiser, as a compositor.
While employed at The Citizen Advertiser, he served as president and vice president in the local branch of the International Typographical Union.
Mr. Walsh was a lifelong member of the Utopia Club of Auburn, and a parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Old Dixie Highway, Korona, Fla.
Survivors include is wife of 47 years, Mary Jane (Mitchell) Walsh; three daughters, Kathleen Walsh of Auburn, Mary Pat Walsh-Morgan of Wampsville and Judy Lynn of Auburn; sons, Gerald J. Walsh of Newfield, Edward (Ted) J. Walsh of Throop and Patrick M. Walsh of Syracuse; daughters-in-law, Tracey (Compton) Walsh of Throop and Julia (Spin) of Syracuse; son-in-law, Joseph P. Morgan of Wampsville; and special family friend, Diane Scofield of Newfield.
Grandchildren include Katie Lynn, Lauren Lynn and Valerie Lynn, all of Auburn; grandsons, Ian Phillips and Carl Phillips of Auburn, Sean P. Walsh and Mitchell T. Walsh of Throop and Garrett E. Morgan of Wampsville.
Mr. Walsh was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne S. Walsh on April 30, 1982.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Auburn. Private burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fleming.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in the Heieck-Pelc Funeral Home, 42 E. Genesee St., Auburn.
