AUBURN -- George H. Smith, 78, of the Maplewood Stock Farm, 757 W. Genesee Street Road, Auburn, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at home.
George was born on Jan. 15, 1926, the son of Barrell and Amy Boyton Smith. During his early years, he was raised on Oakridge Road and also resided there as a young adult, along with a residence on Byrne Road.
A lifelong horseman, his passion was breeding, training and brokering horses at his Maplewood Stock Farm. At one time, he also owned and operated a dairy farm. He started many apprentices in the horse business and had leased rodeo stock to many shows throughout the country.
Surviving is his daughter, Linda Connors, of Syracuse; a son, Kerry Smith, of Auburn; a brother, Kenneth Smith, of Auburn; and two sisters, Helen Steigerwald and Ruth Black, of Auburn.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Irene DeLapp Smith, of Genoa, and a brother, Horace Smith Jr.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn, with the Rev. James Enright officiating. Internment will be in Soule Cemetery, Sennett. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.
