Gloria Fisher Obituary
FLEMING - Gloria Culver Fisher, 86, of Fleming, died Monday, July 3, 2017. Born Gloria Lois Beals on Sept. 29, 1930 to Roydon and Wilhelmina Beals in Buffalo, she lived most of her life in southern Cayuga County.
A graduate of King Ferry Central School, Auburn Business School, and Cayuga Community College, she retired her role as secretary at Auburn Correctional Facility after 23 years of service. A valued 50-plus year member, elder, deacon, and choir member of the Scipioville Presbyterian Church, she served several terms as clerk of session; as well as a term for the Synod of the Northeast, representing Cayuga Syracuse Presbytery.
Gloria was one of the first campers at Camp Casper Gregory in 1941 and later served on the Camp Program Committee. She worked with the bereaved and as a patient caregiver with Hospice of the Finger Lakes for many years. She was a member of the board of managers at the Faatz Crofut Home for Elderly, chairing and preaching Sunday worship services.
Gloria loved gardening and refinishing furniture, but most of all, she loved spending time with family. She was a friend, caregiver, and prayer warrior for many. She loved her farm life, having worked to renovate the farmhouse, landscaping, and woodlots after retirement. She made herself available whenever family needed help with their personal, family, or farm work.
Gloria was predeceased by Coral A. Culver, the father of her three sons, and granddaughter, Rebecca Culver.
Surviving is her husband of 48 years, John Fisher; sister, Joyce (Harold) Short; brother, Dr. Roy/Bub (Kathleen) Beals; sons, Craig (Marlene), Keith (Lorena), and Clair (Ellie); stepchildren, Jane (Ron) Walsh, Jeanne (Larry) Baldwin, and James (Lynn) Fisher; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A private funeral and burial will be followed by a service of Thanksgiving and Celebration for all of Gloria's extended family and friends at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8 in the Scipioville Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Scipioville Presbyterian Church, 3428 State Route 34B, Scipio Center, NY 13147.
Arrangements are with White Chapel Funeral Home Inc., Auburn.
