Gloria "Debbie" VanPelt Torrey, 93 of Owasco, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Matthew House. Gloria was born on March 30, 1932 in New Jersey to the late Michael and Dorothy Duricsen Peapus. She was an educator for 42 years and finished her career in the Auburn School District as a Social Studies teacher. Gloria was an avid golfer at the Owasco Country Club. She had a great passion for bridge playing twice a week with fellow players and loved to read. Gloria was an active member of the Auburn Teachers Union and devoted New York Yankees fan.
She is survived by nephew, Craig Peapus and his wife Debbie; nieces, Diane Peapus and Laura Ferguson; grand nephew, Sean Peapus; grand niece, Tracy Pasciullo and her husband Edward. In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by first husband, Warren Palmer VanPelt; and second husband, Donald Torrey; brother, Frederick Peapus; sister, Irene Peapus; nephews, Mark and Keith Peapus.
There will be visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Brew Funeral Home, 48 South Street, Auburn with a service to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Fleming.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
The family would like to thank Gloria's friend Maureen Miller for her friendship.
