Graydon L. Weed
July 13, 1943 - May 1, 2024
There is so much I want to share about a person as loving, generous and special as my Dad, Graydon Latta Weed who died on May 1, 2024 after a brief illness with cancer.
Here are the facts: He was born in Rome, NY on July 13, 1943 to Howard (died 2002) and Lorraine Latta Weed (died 2014).
In 1963 he was married to Jean Weed (died 2012). They had one son, Kent Weed (died 1996) (Denise Curl Weed); one daughter, Marcy Weed; and one grandchild, Emmerson Weed. He had a family of three siblings: Carol Weed Gunn (Charlie Gunn), Steve Carmichael (Mahlian Carmichael) and Carl Weed (Sandra Smelski Weed). Their children are: Dusty, Paul, Emily, and Kristin. He has many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces in the Weed, Ketchum, Baldwin, Simmonds, Baisch and Failing families.
I want to share some history like the fact that he became a Computer Programmer in the late 1960s because he was good at languages. I should probably mention he found a lifelong spiritual connection within the Unitarian Universalist Church in Buffalo, Amherst and Auburn where he served on the Board.
He loved animals and was a proud pet owner: hamsters, fish, bunnies, St. Bernards, Himalayan cats, Persian Cats, and Golden Retrievers.
He grew up in Central NY, spent his adult life in Western NY and returned to CNY for his retirement years to be closer to family.
I have many stories of how he became a devoted caregiver to his wife through her illness with MS. I know that helping to raise his granddaughter, Emme, gave him new life and purpose. I can share that his brothers believed his strength compared him to superman in his teens and his daughter thought he was the kindest person she knew.
Or do I simply let you know how much he was loved and how desperately he will be missed? Rest in Peace

May your many memories of Graydon help during your time of sorrow. I remember Graydon when the Weed family lived in New Hope. My aunt and uncle, Bunny and John Matijas lived across the road. Graydon was only 3 years older than me but I always felt he was one of the older New Hope "kids." I remember playing baseball (he was the pitcher) in Bunny and John's back yard with my cousins and the Weed children. My sincerest sympathy to your family.
