AUBURN - Jane Bassett, 91, formerly of Van Duyne Avenue, died Saturday, No. 8, 2003, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Bassett was born in Waterloo on Feb. 23, 1912. She was the daughter of Casper Yost and Jessie Greenway Yost (of the Greenway family of Geneva). A graduate of Waterloo High School, Jane had been employed as a bookkeeper with Mason & Grant for more than 20 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick H. Bassett on Nov. 18, 2000. She and her late husband had been very involved with the Owasco Fire Department for many years. She was a charter member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Owasco Fire Department Co. No. 1. She had previously served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Central New York Firemen, member of the New York State Firemen's Association, member of the Auburn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and had also been a volunteer at the hospital. In 1968, she was honored by The Citizen newspaper and Zonta Club as "Woman of the Year," for her community service. She was a member of SS. Peter & John Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Bassett is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, VanCleef Yost.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, in White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Following services, Jane will be laid to rest beside her husband in Sand Beach Cemetery, Fleming.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Owasco No. 1 Volunteer Fire Department.
