John S. Leonard

November 20, 1949 - October 20, 2025

MORAVIA - John S. Leonard, 75, of Moravia, passed away on October 20, 2025 after a long illness.

John was born on November 20, 1949 in Auburn, son of the late Stanley and Helen (Bennett) Leonard. A lifelong area resident, John worked for many years on area farms and went on to be a NYS Corrections Officer. He was a veteran of the US Army and a graduate of Southern Cayuga Central School.

John enjoyed reading and watching his many bird feeders.

He is survived by his sisters, Marie Halicy, of Reston, VA and Margaret Nesbit (David), of Locke; and nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his longtime companion, Norma Meeks in 2024, and his brother-in-law, Patrick Halicy.

At John's request, there are no public services. Private interment will be in East Venice Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Genoa, and online condolences may be shared with his family at www.shurtleffservices.com .

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Southern Cayuga Instant Aid (SCIA) Ambulance, P.O. Box 7, Poplar Ridge, NY 13139 or to Four Town Ambulance, P.O. Box 28, Moravia, NY 13118.
