AUBURN - Joseph P. Giacolone, 83, of 20 Park Ave., Auburn, formerly of Kearney Avenue, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Auburn, the son of the late John and Bridget Buongiorno Giacolone, and had been a life resident. Joe was a World War II Army Signal Corps veteran. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for more than 20 years by the former Lewis Roberts Co. Joseph was an avid golfer and was an accomplished square dancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, the former Esther Ciao of Auburn; a son, Robert C. and his wife, Laurel, of Connecticut; a brother, Adam and his wife, Patricia, of California; a sister-in-law, Frances Giacolone; nieces, Marie Meyer, Diane Lupo and Elizabeth Fuller; and a nephew, Ed Meyer.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by a sister, Antoinette Meyer, in September of 2003; as well as several other brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn, with the Rev. Robert Herst officiating. A calling hours will be held one prior to the service, from 2 to 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
As desired by Joe before his death, a celebration of the staff and residents of Floor 1 of the Finger Lakes Center for Living, is being planned to honor their dedication and affection during his stay at the living center.
