Joseph T. Locastro
Joseph T. Locastro, 98, of Lake Avenue Extension, Fleming, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025. A lifelong resident of Auburn, he was born to Onofrio D. Locastro and Josephine (Guarraggi) Locastro.
Joseph proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Switzerland as part of the 42nd Infantry Division. He was among the last surviving veterans of this historic period of time.
A devout member of both St. Francis Church and Sacred Heart Church, Joseph was also active in his community. He was a longtime member of the Italian American Club, even serving as President for a time, and was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus.
Joseph spent much of his working life as a skilled mason, with an exceptional reputation throughout Central New York. He worked on numerous projects across the state, including many years with Amodei Construction. A proud member of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 2, Joseph took great pride in his craft and his meticulous attention to detail earned him the respect of all who knew him in his profession.
Outside of work, Joseph enjoyed hosting gatherings at his home, especially backyard cookouts where family and friends would come together to share good times. He had a particular love for playing poker with his wife, Josephine, his brother Dee, and his brother-in-law Sam Indelicato. Joe also enjoyed the occasional visit to the casino, a pastime that brought him joy.
Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife Josephine Locastro (Indelicato) and his brothers Diego and Victor Locastro. He was also preceded by his sister Antonina (Tony) Iaria, her husband Frank Iaria, and his sister-in-laws Mary Lou & Rose Indelicato.. He leaves behind his three loving daughters: Lillian M. Timms (Liverpool), Rosemary (William) Cholette (Florida), Carol Jo (John) Willis, his son Jolee Locastro, all of Auburn and sister-in-law June Indelicato. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Kaley (Justin) Timms-Heath, Ryan Timms, Patrick and Matthew Willis, and a nephew, John Iaria, formerly of Arizona. Joe was also predeceased by brother; Samuel (Claire) Indelicato & Dr. Joseph Indelicato.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to David Townsend, a close friend who provided unwavering support and friendship to Joseph throughout his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Auburn, NY, on Friday March 21st at 12:15 PM, with the Rev. Louis Vasile, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, where full military honors will be rendered.
Calling hours will be held at Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn, prior to the mass on Friday, March 21st from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM.
