Lance D. Hoag, 63, of Groton, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 22, 2025.

Lance was born on September 11, 1962, in Auburn, a son of the late George and Donna (Barrington) Hoag, who predeceased him. A resident of Groton for most of his life, he served in the U.S. Army and studied auto mechanics at Cayuga Onondaga BOCES.

He is survived by his wife, Karla (Sovocool) Hoag; children, Caitlin Hoag (Troy), of NY, Douglas Nelson, of NY, Kristina Portillo (Alex), of CA, and Kristen Schuster (Teger), of WA; siblings, Deborah Lewis, of KY, Rebecca Isabel, of KY, Robin Swenk (Bill), of AZ, Scott Hoag, of NY, and Melissa Shepherd (Joe), of TX; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many aunts and uncles. He loved all his family and held a special place in his heart for his youngest granddaughter, Anna-Lee Cobb, whom he raised like a daughter for six years.

Lance was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He took pride in his lawn and home, and he enjoyed traveling with his wife and kids to the ocean and many other destinations. When he was younger, he sang in bands, and his voice was enjoyed by many.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon on Saturday, November 29, at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Avenue, Groton, with funeral services to begin at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Indian Mound Cemetery, Moravia. Buffalo Bills attire is encouraged and appreciated in his honor.
