AUBURN - Nancy J. Ward, 68, of Ward Road, Auburn, passed away Feb. 27, 2017 at Auburn Community Hospital. Born and raised in Tupper Lake, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Doris Mason Smith. She was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and while in Albany worked at WPTZ Radio.
Nancy was a former correspondent for The Citizen and The Finger Lakes Times and was last employed for more than 20 years with Mercy Rehabilitation Center as a recreational therapist.
Nancy enjoyed arts and crafts and previously owned two ceramic studios, one in Tupper Lake and one which was located in Weedsport, The Mud Hut. She owned and rode horses her entire life and her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She is survived by two daughters, Sonia (Bradley) Webb and Robyn (Curtis) Richardson; a brother, Edward J. Smith, and a "brophew," Edward J.(Samniang) Smith Jr.; two sisters, Susan and Carol Smith; four grandchildren, Daniel, Dylan, and Dominique Richardson, and Robert Aubrey Webb; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, and by a brother, Thomas Smith.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11 in the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church, 101 Fitch Ave., Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to the church in Nancy's memory.
