NILES - Ronald E. Stayton, 71, of Globe Road, Niles, died unexpectedly Friday, June 30, 2017.
Ron was born Jan. 28, 1946 in Auburn, the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Franklin Stayton and was a lifelong resident of Niles.
He was a 1964 graduate of Moravia High School and had served in the Air Force from 1966 to 1970.
"Ronnie," "Red Truck," "Ron-co," just a few of the nicknames he acquired over the years, worked at Davis Wallbridge for over 40 years as a diesel mechanic. Farming was his part-time job with a full-time work load. Sunup to sundown Ron worked tirelessly and always got the job done. Dedicated, loyal, and honest, he enjoyed the simple things in life, not traveling far from home. The farm was his passion and it was evident by the way he took care of his land and his equipment. He set a good example for his family through his hard work and outgoing personality.
He celebrated 50 years of marriage to his wife Elaine and was a prime role model for his children. He enjoyed his grandchildren and was always good for a tractor ride.
Ron sure knew how to draw a crowd. If the barn door was open and his hand was in the air you knew you were welcome and he did enjoy your company.
He was a well-respected member of the community and will be missed by all who knew him.
Ron married Elaine Hulse in 1966, who survives him. He is also survived by children, sons Jeffrey (Sue) Stayton and Michael Stayton, of Niles; daughter Melissa Stayton (Dan Dunham), of Moravia; grandchildren Matthew, Meghan and Kayleigh Stayton and Collin Dunham; sisters Linda (Dick) Simmons, of Baltimore, Maryland and Cheryl (Steve) Austin, of Weedsport.
