Stanley Robert Mattes Sr.

WEST PLAINS, Mo. < Stanley Robert Mattes Sr., died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006. Mr. Mattes was born in Auburn on Nov. 20, 1929, the son of Joseph and Frances (Guzik) Mattes (both deceased). He was a veteran, having served in the Army. Mr. Mattes was married in Swedesboro, N.J. in 1952, to (Phyllis) Ann Dietrich (deceased in 2001). The couple lived in the Auburn area from 1952 to 1985. They had seven children. They moved to West Plains, Mo. in 1985. where he was employed and retired from Howell County Road and Bridge, as road supervisor and had been a volunteer fireman with the Lanton, Missouri Fire Department. Mr. Mattes is survived by his present wife, Doreen Mattes of West Plains, Mo.; his seven children, Michael Mattes of West Plains, Mo., Joseph Mattes of Spring Lake, N.C., Kathy Graham of West Plains, Mo., Stanley (Stash) Mattes of West Plains, Mo., Duane Mattes of Port Byron, Robert (Bob) Mattes of Lanton, Mo., and Walter Mattes of Thayer, Mo. He had 34 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a stepson and a stepdaughter. Mr. Mattes was the brother of the late Joseph F. Mattes of Auburn, the late Kenneth D. Mattes, of Auburn; a sister, Mary S. Joseph of Sebastian, Fla.; and brother, Theodore S.Mattes of Union Springs. He was also survived by an aunt, Helen Swope of Moravia; and one uncle, Charles Guzik of Delmar. The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Robertson-Drego Funeral Home, West Plains, Mo. The ministers were Pastor Jim Brown, and a nephew of the deceased, Pastor Tony Joseph from Bridgeton, Mo.
