Steven Clarke Obituary

Steven Kenyon Clarke, 83, of Auburn, NY, passed away at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ on Saturday, September 27th, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1942, he was the son of Ford Kenyon and Ahvagene Clarke. Steve graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown, PA. He went on to graduate from Alfred University, where he studied business and joined the Kappa Sigma Epsilon fraternity. It was there that he met the love of his life, Roberta Anne Perry of Saranac Lake, New York. Steve and Roberta were married in July 1965 in Plattsburgh, New York.

After several early moves, the couple settled in Auburn, New York, where Steve built a successful career in computer programming. Together they raised four children: Steve (Jennifer Ashbrook), David, Gwyn (Max Chang), and Tim (Kristina Marley).

Steve was an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather, remembered for the many sacrifices he made to put his family first. He coached sandlot baseball, taught religious education at St. Alphonsus and loved playing basketball with his three sons well into his sixties.

After retiring, Steve prioritized family vacations with his grandchildren in Lewes, DE and became an avid pickleball player known for his wicked serve, ultimately going on to compete in the Empire State Senior Games.

He is survived by his sister, Gwynneth Beil of Elyria, Ohio, his brother, Tim Clarke of Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania; his children and their spouses; and his nine beloved grandchildren-Matthew, Kenyon, Elliott, Katy, Owen, Aaron, Noah, Oliver, and Aliya.

Known for his sense of humor, love of music and tremendous humility and kindness, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A small family service was held Tuesday, September 30th at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd, Teaneck NJ. A memorial service in Lewes, DE will be announced at a later date.
