A. Pilcher Obituary

Dr. A. Reginald "Reggie" Pilcher, 72, loving husband of Pamela Pilcher, entered into rest on Saturday, June 29, 2019.

Reggie was born and raised in Macon, GA. He was a graduate of A. R. Willingham High School in Macon, GA and Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA. He then moved to Augusta to attend Augusta College. After graduation, he began his teaching career at Langford Junior High School in 1969. He also taught at Augusta Country Day School and Westside High School. In 1975, he became Comprehensive Health Planning Director of Lower Savannah Regional Planning and Development Council and stayed in this position until he started medical school at Medical College of Georgia in 1980, where he was president of his freshmen class. He completed his pediatric residency at MCG during which he was instrumental in the development of the Child Advocacy Center of Augusta. Reggie practiced Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine for over 32 years in Augusta. He served as President of the Medical Staff of Doctors Hospital in 2008. He was honored and proud to be selected as "Doctor of the Year" on four occasions by the Columbia County Magazine.

His life was devoted to and driven by a thirst for knowledge and teaching, but he had many passions that included: science, hunting, fishing, golf, cooking, gardening, writing poetry, wine, and hoarding (which he referred to as "collecting"). His greatest passion, however, was spending time with friends and family.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Carson Pilcher (Ellen), Fran Botzis (Michael), Melissa Dupree (Chris), Holly Martin (Troy), Morgan Pilcher, and Mallory Pilcher; grandchildren: Stiles Pilcher, Benjamin, Harrison and Alexander Botzis, Cailey, Jackson, Maggie, and Saxon Dupree, Peyton and Carolyn Martin; and siblings: Connie Pilcher, Kerry Pilcher (Janane), Tommy Pilcher and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Alton Pilcher, and his mother, Katherine Copeland.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Reverend Grady Mosley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Children's Hospital of Georgia, 1120 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30912; Cancer Research Institute Web Donation, 29 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10006-311; the National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030; or Trump's 2020 Presidential Campaign, Donald J. So sorry to hear about Dr Pilcher's passing. My children Carlton Canter and Madeline Canter-Beason were patients of his from their birth until we left Augusta in 1999. Both kids are moving back to Evans with children of their own. I will definitely be pointing them in the direction of the Pilcher Practice.
You could not have found a nicer man or a better doctor than Dr Pilcher.
It was our privilege to have known him
Sincerely

Thank you Dr Pilcher for being the best pediatrician ever. From the day I met him when my son was 2 years old I knew that I made a great decision. We moved to Atlanta earlier this year and I still never thought about switching Drs. I found out about his death when I was scheduling my sons 5 year old checkup. I still have not set a date I can't imagine going into his office and not seeing him. My son may not remember but I will never forget him. My condolences goes out to his family and the entire staff.

Our son's pediatrician from birth to early teen. A good, humble man and great physician. When the bible speaks of "salt of the Earth" it was referring to Dr. Reginald Pilcer.

To the Family and Friends of Reggie Pilcher:

My sincerest condolences to his wife, Pam, his children, and grandchildren, whom I know he adored deeply. I am so saddened to hear of your loss and will be lifting you up in prayer. Both of my children were his patients since birth; my son,20, and my daughter, 16, who just had the privilege of being seen by him in December. He was such an asset to his profession and to humanity; the greatest advocate for children, and one who truly lit up a room when he walked in. I feel honored to have known him. He was the embodiment of a good, Christian man. May God send his blessings to you and your family.

Dr. Pilcher was much loved not only by the many babies and children he lovingly treated, but also the parents and even the grandparents of these children who recognized a doctor so special in his genuine concern for his little patients. He was the embodiment of an extraordinary generation of doctors who will be forever remembered. May God bless Pam and his family. We take comfort he is already at work listening for tummy frogs and finding bunnies in the ears of those precious Angels he has joined in heaven. He was truly "one in a million". May he rest in
peace.

Dr. Pilcher has taken care of my four children for 23 years. When my oldest daughter was five, she started complaining of persistent headaches. Dr. Pilcher was always proactive and ordered an MRI. Insurance denied the request, but he was determined to have Sky receive the MRI, so he persisted. As a result, a cancerous brain tumor was found attached to her brainstem called an anplastic ependymoma. Had he not been persistent, she may not be here. She is nineteen now and attending KSU. He was so knowledgeable, humorous, kind, dedicated, and is complete irreplaceable. The world will miss Dr. Pilcher. We thank God for sharing Dr. Pilcher with us.

What a kind and generous man. He was a very special pediatrician. His patients loved him but their mothers adored him for his caring and concerned way he treated their children. I am so fortunate that seven of my nine grandchildren have been in his care for the last twelve years. I thank his family for sharing him with my family. He was one of a kind.

Heartbreaking news. Reggie was a kind, gentle, intelligent, and amazing human being. He was a loving husband to Pam, and father to their children. He was an excellent pediatrician, beloved by his little patients, and their parents and families. He was an esteemed medical colleague to those of us who had the privilege to work with him. He lived a full and robust life, but still, he has left us much too soon.

I had the pleasure of working with Reggie at Doctors Hospital for twenty-four years. He was the pediatrician for my daughters Madison and Brianna over the years. Some twenty years later, if they had their choice, he would have continued to be their doctor for the duration!

I met Reggie when I came to Augusta in 1991, and I am honored to have been his friend. I am a better person, because of Reggie Pilcher, and I am certain that all those who knew him feel the same. I will cherish his memory and his friendship, and I will keep him in my heart for the rest of my life, and beyond.

My thoughts and prayers go to Pam, Morgan, and Mallory, and to the entire Pilcher family.

Fran and family- I'm so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I didn't know your dad personally, but I have a fond memory of him. Our family suffered a devastating loss in 2002, my cousin's 5 year old, Morgan. Dr. Pilcher was her doctor. He came to the funeral home to extend his condolences to Donna & Brent and I remember Donna saying how much that meant to her. The community has lost a great doctor!

My prayers for strength and comfort for his family. I knew him when he was at the state planning agency when I was a student at MCG. He was so gracious to work with the HIM students. Later, I saw him frequently during his residency at MCG when he would come in to catch up on medical records. I know he will be missed greatly by family and community.

Reggie was a big part of my close, extended family of first cousins. We were the first generation of the family to attend college, and Reggie was the first of us to complete post-graduate education (medical school). His obituary documents just some of the high points of his exemplary professional career.
More importantly, he was a caring father, friend, and pediatrician and an example to emulate for the rest of us. He will be missed.
God's blessings, comfort, peace, and strength in Christ Jesus to Pam and all the Pilcher clan and to Tommy, Kerry, and Connie during this time of sadness.
