Dear Charlie, It has been a great pleasure to be associated with you via Addison-Wesley. You are most clearly among the very very best. John

There are some people who offer so much, who are so steady in their friendship, and whose character has a way of inspiring you to be a better person yourself. Charlie Fleenor was one of those people, and was my great friend.
He leaves a void, and will be greatly missed.

Charlie was one of the three senior authors at Addison Wesley Publishing Company when I was brought on as a contributing writer. I learned a great deal from Charlie; he was wise and very dedicated to doing the best possible work for children. I will miss one of the most influential mentors in my life.

I first meet Charlie in the fall of 1958 when he was teaching math. at the Burris School at Ball State U. in Muncie under Charles Brumfiel. Charlie joined the A-W author team of Brunfiel, Shanks, & Eicholz initially on the text entitled PRE-CALCULUS MATH, the first text to ever use that title. Later he worked at A-W on various other Math. texts for Gr. K-12 and contributed greatly to A-W success.
His love for Math. was only exceeded by that for tennis. A wonderful, sweet man who was always full of good humor.
David, as you perhaps best know, your Dad had many friends at A-W who would join me in sending our deepest condolences.

Charlie was the very first author I worked with as an assistant editor at Addison Wesley. He always treated me with respect and I always appreciated his great sense of humor. RIP Charlie. My condolences to the family.

I knew Charlie at Addison-Wesley, and always enjoyed talking to him. (Most of our conversations were about tennis, not publishing.) I found him sharp, relaxed and always in good humor.
Best wishes to all his family,

I was thinking of all the Fleenors today during Charlie's memorial service, and sorry I could not be there to pay tribute. He and Vanecia were important people in my parents' lives and subsequently mine as well. The world is a better place because he was in it.

Jim and Waneta,
Charlie sure sounds like a special man. I know he has a great son, and that legacy must have come from somewhere. I also know he was very lucky to have had you both in his life.
Wishing you only good memories,

My wife and I enjoyed the many holiday parties at the Fleenor house. Both Charlie and Vanecia were wonderful hosts and just lots of fun to be with. Charlie was always fun to play tennis with at the Cupertino Swim and Racquet Club. He was a prime mover in setting up inter club matches. I missed them both when they moved away and was not surprised to hear he continued entertaining folks with tennis and math. We miss them both.

Over the years since Charlie and Vanecia moved to Evans, GA, I've been keeping in touch with him via E-mail and Snail-mail as a reminder for him of the good 'ole days here in Cupertino. I'm certainly going to miss my old friend even more now.
