Edward Nelms

EVANS, Ga. - Mr. Edward Nelms, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 6, 2011, at his home in Evans surrounded by his family. Mr. Nelms, a native of Athens, GA. was the son of Ruby and B.J. Nelms. He was the last surviving of their seven children. He spent most of his life in Augusta and was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta. In his last years, he enjoyed living at Washington Commons. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Family members include his children: Velinda and L.T. Walden, Laura and Jim Brooks, Mike and Patsy Nelms, Keith Nelms; eight grandchildren: Les and Shannon Walden, Eddie and Dana Walden, Jacob and Jessica Wendling, Michael and Jenny Nelms, Adam and Tiffany Wendling, Emily and Chris Rud, Leslie and Brandon Beckworth, Ashley and Russell Fiveash; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Trinity Hospice team: Fredda Dear, Carolyn Johnson and Wayne Bruner. Special thanks to the devoted caregivers: Andrea Massey and Hollis Howard. Heartfelt thanks to our devoted friend and long term caregiver Williette Garnett whose love and devotion has been overwhelming. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Gary Redding officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Les Walden, Eddie Walden, Jacob Wendling, Michael Nelms, Adam Wendling, Keith Nelms, Mike Nelms and L.T. Walden. Memorials may be made to the Children's Learning Center of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, 625 Georgia Avenue North Augusta, SC 29841-3703.
