Elizabeth Cudd Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Elizabeth Henerey Cudd, widow of Dr. John James Cudd Jr., died in her home on March 6, 2016 after a short illness. Bette, as she was known by all who knew and loved her, is survived by four children, Sheryl Cudd Blenis Ortmann of Columbia SC, Jayne Cudd Davison (Peter Sanford Davison) of Ponte Vedra, FL, John James Cudd III (Jane Mitchener Cudd) of Augusta GA and Dr. Edward Parker Henerey Cudd of Augusta GA; eight wonderful grandchildren, Robert Stanley Blenis Jr., Peter Sanford Davison Jr., Ashley Davison Laughlin, Kelly Davison Boston, Erica Cudd Malcom, Callan Cudd Rhodes, Darby Lynn Cudd and Edward Parker Cudd Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Robert Colin Blenis, Alec Thomas Blenis, Karen Ashley Gray, Sydney Brooks Laughlin, and Benjamin Harvey Malcom III. Bette was born in Cope, S.C. to Edward Parker Henerey and Mary Ruth Waite Henerey on August 13, 1924. Bette met the love of her life, John, when she was five (5) years old and he was eight (8) years old. They married on June 25, 1946 after John returned home from service in World War II. Bette had graduated from Columbia College with a double music major in piano and organ while John was serving his country. After their marriage Bette maintained the home and children while John finished his education, including degrees from USC, Emory and the University of Montreal. John and Bette moved to Augusta after John graduated from orthodontia school in 1964. Bette was active in the Augusta community, as President of the Augusta Symphony Guild, a member of the Augusta Country Club, a member of the Augusta Dental Auxiliary, a member of the Camellia Garden Club and numerous other organizations over the ensuing years. Bette and John were fortunate to have a loving, close knit family and to have many wonderful friends throughout their lives. They were also fortunate to be able to travel the world and enjoy exploring other cultures and peoples, all while enjoying the companionship of each other and their friends. A memorial service, officiated by Dr. Timothy L. Owings, will be held at the First Baptist Church, Storey Chapel, 3500 Walton Way, Augusta 30909, at 2pm Wednesday March 9, 2016. A reception for family and friends will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Augusta or to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. It is befitting that Aunt Bette and Nancy Reagan died on the same day, Sunday, March 6. They were both the epitome of style, grace, class ~ savoir faire.
Unfortunately, we are away for our 32nd anniversary and will not be able to be with you, but we want you, Sheryl, Jane, Jay and Parker to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Robert and Stephanie Greault
