Eugenia DeLamotte Obituary

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. - Eugenia Caroline DeLamotte, long-time Augusta resident and professor of English at Arizona State University, died peacefully on August 22 in Paradise Valley, Ariz. after a courageous struggle against lymphoma. She was the elder daughter of Roy DeLamotte, who still lives in Augusta, and she is survived by her husband, Carl Gardner; sons, Paul and Mark; sister, Rebecca DeLamotte of Somerville, Mass. with her husband, Peter Bloom. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 28, 2:30 p.m., at the Friends Meeting House, 318 East 15th Street, Tempe, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Oxfam America, P.O. Box 1211 Albert Lea, MN 56007, or to the American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102. Eugenia DeLamotte was a distinguished scholar, beloved teacher, and noted authority in women's literature and feminist theory. Her awards include the Distinguished Mentor of Women and the Distinguished Teaching Award from ASU. Her articles are widely published, and she was the author of five books. She received a Ph.D. from Harvard University, an MA from Oxford University, and a BA from Duke University. She graduated from Academy of Richmond County in 1969.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Eugenia. We were friends at Woodlawn Elemetary and graduated together at Richmond Academy. She was a very kind and gentle person.

I fondly remember a girls birtday party "candy party" at your home on the campus of Paine College.All of the little girls help make candy.
