Jane Quarles Obituary

Mrs. Jane Beaty Quarles, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Saturday, December 2, 2017 after an extended illness. Mrs. Quarles was born and raised in Anderson, SC and the daughter of Mr. James Sadler Beaty and Mildred Wakefield Bowen.

Mrs. Quarles was a past Augusta Town Committee Chairman of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia, past chairman of Augusta Symphony Cotillion, ticket chairman for 15 years for the Symphony Guild of Symphony Orchestra of Augusta, past treasurer of the Women of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church for 15 years where she was a faithful member for 55 years, member of the Camellia Garden Club, and Augusta County Club. She was also an avid bridge player, tennis player, snow skier, and gardener. She will be remembered by those who knew her best as feisty, fun-loving, and a generous friend.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. James D. Quarles; and her three children, son, Dr. J. Douglas Quarles, Jr. and his wife Teresa; son, Mark B. Quarles and his wife Sharon; her daughter, Stephanie Q. Corn and her husband Michael, of Fort Mill, SC; and her seven grandchildren: James D. Quarles, III (Kelly) of Charleston, SC, Dr. Blake W. Quarles (Mary) of Atlanta, GA, Mary Brooke Grier (Sam) of Atlanta, GA, Sadler R. Quarles of Augusta, GA, Sally Quarles of Augusta, GA, Phoebe and Jane Ann Corn of Fort Mill, SC; and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Ann Thackston, and her cousin, Dr. Frank McPhail (Nanci), all of Augusta.

A memorial service will be Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Matt Rich officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Augusta Symphony Guild, 1301 Greene St., Suite 200, Augusta, GA 30901 or to the Reid Memorial Building Fund, 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.
