Jonathan Benedict Obituary
Being diagnosed with autism and muscular dystrophy before his second birthday, Jonathan was always happy and full of love and brought a smile to those he encountered. He amassed affectionately several nicknames (Angel, Buddy, Big Guy, Probie, JB, John-John, The Man) and a large team of admirers, supporters, teachers, teacher assistants, and caring doctors, therapists and caregivers. He loved school, Katie's Pool, going for rides, music, compliments, being around other people, especially ladies (when he turned up his charm a few notches), and being around family.
Left with countless happy memories are his parents, grandparents, one great-grandmother, godparents, many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins who spoiled him rotten, and many members of TEAM JOHNNY.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Augusta branch of Affinis Hospice, and Professional Medical Fulfillment of Opelika, AL.
To honor Jonathan's life and memory: the staff of Affinis Hospice 1365 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909 was very helpful, professional, and caring. A donation in his memory will help Affinis continue its work; Katie's Pool, Claudia Collins, Adaptive Aquatics Program Director, The Family Y, 3750 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30909, provided Jonathan many years of joy and benefit. A donation in his memory to its scholarship fund will help those with special needs and financial needs receive necessary therapy; Riverside Middle School, Mrs. Jennifer Bowlby, 1095 Furys Ferry Road, Evans, GA 30809 is where Jonathan spent his final seven years of schooling. A donation in his memory to his class will help Mrs. Bowlby provide cleaning supplies, spare clothes, specific snacks, and therapy items for her wonderful students.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 5:00-8:00pm at Arlington Burial & Cremation, 1220 George C. Wilson Drive, Suite C in Augusta. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road in Grovetown.

Praying for the hearts of the loved ones during this difficult time. I admire your strength and courage during the past 18 years preparing Jonathan to go in the arms of Jesus. I feel blessed to have met such amazing parents. Being a special needs parent I know the daily struggles. God bless you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with You and the Family! Although I never had the honor of meeting Jonathan, Grandma Joan talked about how Him all the time !! He was incredible and greatly loved ! I got to see the beautiful picture of Jonathan and the big smile on his face! May God's love and peace surround You and May the Happy Memories bring a smile to your face !" My "Johnny Man's" beautiful brown eyes and amazing smile will forever be etched in my heart. I was blessed to have worked with him (and his parents) for many years. I'm sure the angels are singing to him because they can't resist his charm.
