Josephine Bailie Obituary
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Josephine M. Bailie, beloved wife of the late Mr. Donald H. Bailie, Sr. entered into rest Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Doctors Hospital. She was a member of The Church of the Good Sheppard and also St. Johns Methodist Church. Josephine Mae Morgan Bailie was born on May 30, 1929 to Fred Henry Morgan, Sr. and Josephine Mae Cartledge Morgan in Savannah, Georgia. She grew up in Parksville, South Carolina surrounded by a loving family with five brothers and sisters (Nettie Louise, Fred, Jr., Jack Wallace (died at age 14 yrs), and Sarah, Alice (died in infancy). She was a beautiful child with long, wavy black hair and fondly given the nickname of "little Miss Shirley Temple" by her family. Her beauty and talents accompanied her into womanhood and she was subsequently crowned "Miss McCormick County." She attended McCormick High School and later participated in the war effort at the Brunswick Shipyard during World War II. She had many close relatives in the Parksville and Clark Hill area including the Blackwells, Cartledges, Robertsons and Markwalters. She returned to Augusta, Georgia with her family and worked at General Finance for several years. Josephine met the love of her life, Donald Haines Bailie, and they were married in First Baptist Church in North Augusta, South Carolina. They had four beautiful children - Lynda, Donald, Grayson and Alan Bailie. Her family grew up in Augusta, Georgia and attended the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church where Josephine participated in numerous church activities. She served as a First Grade Sunday School teacher and enjoyed her students for many years. Josephine and Donald Bailie founded the Donald H. Bailie Agency which was originally located on Broad Street and is still operational today. Together, they were astute businesspeople and participated in many community and service functions. She was a member of the Insurance Woman's Association and served as President and in many other capacities. After a long struggle with many medical problems, she departed this life on February 19, 2006 into the eternal arms of God and her husband. Her bed was surrounded by many loving family members. Memorial services will be at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Robin Bailie, Arthur Collins, Fred Morgan, Terry Lawson, Terrell Wiggins, and the late Richard Blackwell. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Family member include two daughters, Grayson Bailie Tucker of Martinez, and Lynda Bailie Tucker of Charleston, SC; two sons, Donald H. Bailie, Jr. and his wife, Fran, of Martinez, and Alan Courtney Bailie of Augusta; grandchildren are Courtney Tucker Bath, Maj. James Smith Tucker, Lori Tucker Walker, Thomas Morgan Tucker, Christopher Lance Tucker, Donald Haines Bailie, Alan Enrique Bailie, Melissa Morgan Bailie, Amber Bailie Sherrill, and Jennifer Bailie Mobley; great-grandchildren are Forest Matthew Walker, Amber Serenity Walker, Christian Jacob Walker, Sarah Elizabeth Walker, Faith Bailie Walker, Rylee Cora Bath, James Smith Tucker, IV, and Dallas Tucker, one sister; Louise Morgan Markwalter of North Augusta, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
