Joshua Rice Obituary

Retired Navy Veteran GROVETOWN, Ga. - Mr. Joshua H. Rice, 79, husband of Lilian T. Rice, went home to glory to be with God on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at his sister's home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, January 29, 2007 in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Washington, Georgia with full Military Honors with the Reverend Philip Vestal officiating. Mr. Rice was a native and resident of Wilkes County until 1945. He was a twenty year veteran in the U. S. Navy serving time in the World War II, Korean War and Viet Nam War; two years as an Electrican's Mate First Class in the Fleet Reserve. Mr. Rice was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner and past Worshipful Master for two years in Brawley, CA. He retired from the Imperial Valley Electric Company in Brawley, CA and spent his remaining years in Westminister and Niland, CA. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his parents Robert L. Rice, Sr. and Addie Blackmon Rice and sister, Eunice R. Guin. Survivors include one daughter, Sherry R. Sveen, Portland, OR; one brother, Robert L. Rice, Jr.,AZ; three sisters, Peggy (Eddie) Hollows, Grovetown, Rhetta (Dee) Bryant,Greenville, SC and Mary Francis Partain, Ashville, NC; two step-daughters and one stepson; two granddaughters, B. J. Sveen and Brandy (Brad) Gill; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Gill. Mr. Rice is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Hospice and their team, Dr. Leslie Pollard and Dr. Faiz Rehman. Special thanks with love to his caregiver, Jackie Buckley from Southern Home Health Care since May 2006.
