Joyce Kephart

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Joyce E. Kephart, 88, of Augusta, passed at home on January 26, 2013. Daughter of Richard L. Kephart and Olive Taylor Kephart born in Washington DC, raised in Maryland, she attended U of Michigan and graduate school at UCLA. She was a published research biologist pioneer of the electron microscope at the U of Texas. Never without a boat, she was an avid girl scout who loved dogs. Passions were gardening, cooking, and spiritual reading. An Episcopal Lay Eucharistic Minister, bookstore volunteer, prayer team and flower guild member asked to seed a now flourishing church. She and Virginia Zachert made a difference mentoring people who promised to pay it forward upon their accomplishment. They helped found Augusta Meals on Wheels and Underground for Abused Women. Retreats were important leaving her estate to Honey Creek Camp. Survivors include nephews Richard Kephart Jr. of Atlanta, two grand nephews, one grand niece and many loving godchildren. Her service was held at Good Shepherd Episcopal in Augusta on Saturday February 2 at 11:00am. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd. She will be interred beside her mother in the spring at Grace Episcopal Church, Silver Springs, Md.
