L. Fleming Obituary

AIKEN, S.C. - Mr. L. Dean Fleming, 85, of Sparkleberry Lane, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. A native of Zo, KY, Mr. Fleming was born January 13, 1921 to Oral Glen and Mary Elizabeth Kincaid Fleming. He was a retired member of Teamsters from Helms Express. He was a member of the Free Masons, Grand Masonic Lodge # 103 of Mount Hope, WV since 1957. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Fleming served in the U.S. Navy from 1938 thru August 23, 1943 serving in the Pacific and North Atlantic During WWII. He was a wounded combat veteran with combat disability. He retired to Aiken in 1996 and was a member of Chime Bell Baptist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Sherry Willinger, Bristol, TN; two sons, Vance Fleming, Aiken and Tom Fleming, Jacksonville, FL; his former wife, Betty Warden Fleming, Aiken; five grandchildren, Dean Lyell, Courtney Willinger, Les Fleming, Michael Fleming and Shannon Thompson, and five great-grandchildren, Kristen Lyell, Cameron Lyell, Devin Lyell, Hannah Fleming and Casey Thompson. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 PM in Chime Bell Baptist Church with The Rev. Gary Fleetwood officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Lyell, Michael Fleming, Les Fleming, Duane Phillips, Charles Page and Eddie Harley. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC. Memorial contributions may be directed to Chime Bell Baptist Church.
