Major Mike Farrell was my friend. Mike and I, were US Army Captains, each of us on our third combat tour as I recall, and we met working the tri-border area of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, in the Central Highlands, near Plieku, Vietnam in about 1971.
I liked Mike from the outset, he was a professional soldier, nothing stood in his way. We worked together off and on in special operations and in the late summer or fall of 1971 Mike's final Vietnam tour was coming to an end, we arranged to met in Nha Trang, spent a couple of days together and I drove Mike to the Air America Terminal where he boarded a C47 flight to Saigon and then back to the States.
We kept in touch and by the end of the year we met again, thanks to MG Michael D. Healy, who on the spot, changed my assignment, by VOCO (verbal order commanding officer) to the JFK Special Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, NC in December 1971.
Mike and I served in various positions within JFK Center, 95 Civil Affairs Group, 7th SFG, Special Forces Aviation and fun stuff around Smoke Bomb Hill! Briefly, Mike went to the 82nd Airborne Division but, ultimately found his way "home" to the 7th SF Group.
Mike and I were both anxiously awaiting for our loved ones to meet us at Fort Bragg. My wife to be, a young Vietnamese woman, Chanh, and my daughter, Phuong (Michele) were due to arrive in April of 1972. While in Bangkok, Thailand, Mike had met a US Army Nurse, Natalie, they fell in love and married in Bangkok. Natalie was at the end of her assignment in Thailand and looking forward to being with Mike and her new assignment at Womack Army Hospital.
Duty first! Mike was on a field assignment and he asked me to meet his bride at the airport and take her to his apartment. Meeting Captain Natalie Farrell, was a joy, she was beautiful, intelligent and an all around nice person! Good for Mike!
Major Mike Farrell, was a patriot! A professional soldier. A multi year combat veteran. He loved Special Forces and jumping out of airplanes and helicopters! He lived for adventure. Finally, Mike was a good and loving husband.
Mike was my friend! Brothers at Arms. He will be honored and missed but, Never Forgotten!
Natalie, my heart goes out to you!
As always your friend,
LTC Scott Goodman

Prayers and wishes for Major Mike, Natalie and family. I had the pleasure of working for Mike at the Richmond County Board of Education Police, as well being a student at the CSRA Police Academy he had taught. I truly admired Mike and for all he instilled in me as a law enforcement officer. Being a retired veteran from the army I knew what kind of person he was. I am truly sorry for your loss Natalie and know he is now faithfully serving God in heaven now. He will be missed. May God grant you strength and comfort during your time of sorrow

I have and always will have fond memories of Mike. I enjoyed our many talks about military history-we shared a common interest and bond in this. I was intrigued by his weapon collection and spoke often of firing competition. He and Natalie were surrogate grandparents to my grandchildren who once neighbors of theirs. I was shocked and saddened by this news. Just recently, I made a note to reach out-too late. Natalie, if Susie and I can do anything, let us know. Fred Thielke, 706-513-2026
