Richard Hopkins Obituary

EVANS, Ga. - Richard Arthur Hopkins, 68, of Evans, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Debra F. Hopkins; their two sons, Daniel A. Hopkins and his wife Courtney, and David A. Hopkins; one granddaughter Anna Blair; his children, Sherry, Denise, and Richie; his grandsons Timmy and Shawn; his brother Donald R. Hopkins; and his sister Judith C. Ranson. He worked in law enforcement in the state of Mississippi before accepting a position in Augusta at the Savannah River Site where he remained until retiring in 2010. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the CSRA Shag Club, and the CSRA Mustang Club. His memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Columbia Road Chapel with Pastor Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, GA. Rich was always one of my favorite people out at SRS. Very friendly, a hard worker and a terrific sense of humor. I have many memories of talking about our love for dogs and the cabin in North Carolina. Rich will be missed by many.

Rich did a great job when he worked with me at SRS. His personality could bring out the best in everyone he knew. He put a smile on anyone who crossed his path. He will be missed deeply forever. RICH,I COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON YOU COMING BY AND ASKING ABOUT MY FAMILY ON A WEEKLY BASIS. I WOULD ALWAYS TELL CHRIS AND LAUREN AND IT MADE THEM FEEL SPECIAL BECAUSE YOU WEREN'T ONLY ASKING ABOUT THEM, BUT HOW THEY WERE DOING WITH THEIR SINGING..I AM GOING TO MISS THAT AND ALL THE TALKS WE HAD ABOUT OUR SAIC STOCK,FUNNY JOKES,FOCI, BUT MOST OF ALL OUR FAMILIES...IT MEANT SO MUCH TO ME HOW MUCH YOU CARED ABOUT OTHERS...AND THE RETIREMENT PARTY WAS THE BEST..TO THE HOPKINS FAMILY MY HEART IS HEAVY FOR YOU FOR YOU HAVE LOST A TRUE LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, GRANDFATHER AND BROTHER THAT LOVED YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING.
