Evans, GA—Dr. Robert Fredrick "Fred" Mullins, 54, of Evans, entered in to rest Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Dr. Mullins was the Medical Director of the JMS Burn Center at Doctors Hospital and President/CEO of Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America. A leader in the world of burn care, Dr. Mullins leaves behind countless medical professionals to carry his legacy of providing world-class care to patients across the globe. His impact on thousands of patients is immeasurable, as he saved lives every day.
Dr. Mullins was active with various groups, including the Georgia Trauma Commission, the Georgia Trauma Foundation, the JMS Research Foundation, the BRCA Foundation and the Burn Foundation of America. In addition, he was a member of other various professional boards and organizations.
A native of the Augusta area, Dr. Mullins could usually be found on his tractor, cutting grass or surveying property, when he wasn't in the operating room. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, and was excitedly anticipating the arrival of his first grandchild, Berkley Briggs Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Horseman Mullins; son, Houston (Kiki Webster); daughter, Southern Harris (Will); brothers, Frank (Becky), and Joe (Jennifer); sisters, Julie Eden (Danny), Jennifer Mullins, Allison Minshall (Jeremy). He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWitt Franklin Mullins, Jr., and Joann Patricia Vignati.
A public visitation will be from 4-8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Platt's Funeral Home on Belair Road. A private service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the BRCA Foundation (P.O. Box 211624, Augusta, GA 30917), the Burn Foundation of America (3614 J Dewey Gray Circle, Building #C, Augusta, GA 30909), or the Georgia Trauma Foundation (3939 Lavista Road, Suite E, 416, Tucker, GA 30084).

Dr. Mullins, I can never forget you. There will never be another you. A physician that gave me his personal cell phone number when my son was his patient. I can't put into words all that you meant to our family. If tears could bring you back you would be alive today. I still speak of you often. Remembering you is an honor!

It's hard to find the words to express my sadness about Dr. Mullins passing. I have to trust that God knew best. I am a burn survivor. Dr. Mullins performed my last surgery in 1995. However, in 2014 my son suffered with burns over 95% of his body. I know if it had not been for God and Dr. Fred Mullins my son would not be alive today. I cannot even express all he meant to me and my family. What Doctor do you know that will give you their 'personal cell phone number"? none! When my soon is having medical issues nowadays I weep and wish Dr. Mullins was still here. I will always remember him walking the hall in those rubber boots. I will remember the day he introduced his daughter to me in the waiting room. There has to be seat near the throne of grace and mercy for Dr. Mullins. He is one of a kind! Dr. Mullins, memories of you are so very precious. God bless your family for allowing you to be a blessing to countless patients. You deserve to take your rest in Jesus arms! We miss you!

I never had the privledge of meeting Dr Mullins,even though I am very familar with the burn unit at doctors hospital..I was in the old burn unit for about 7 months in 1981..Dr joseph Still was my Doctor at that time. I think in todays world we use the words Hero and Love so often about everything and everbody..that they realy dont mean to much anymore. I do believe that if any one who has ever met these two men,and seen how many lives they have saved..then you would truly would have met Hero's.God bless Dr Mullins..Dr Still and the entire burn unit at Doctors Hospital.

Fred took care of my husband almost 3 years ago during the 5 weeks he spent at the burn center. His compassion, kindness and skill as a surgeon were beyond compare. I like, thousands of others we lucky to have him heal my husband and we will forever hold him in our hearts. My prayers and condolences are with his family and all who loved him.

To Dr. Mullins family, my heart is still heavy as I type my condolences. I am at a loss for adequate words to express my thankfulness for Doctor Mullins. What doctor cares enough to give you their personal cell phone number? Dr. Mullins! I will never forget this wonderful man of God. I too was a current patient of Dr. Mullins. It amazed me that Dr. Mullins could be in ER/admitting so late in the evening and be back so very early the next morning making rounds and operating. Such a fine man with a passion for compassion and a drive to match. It seems Jehovah Rapha had poured a Devine amount of healing power into Dr. Mullins and I am more grateful for that than I can properly express. I praise the LORD for Dr. Mullins. I pray that Jehovah Shalom will hold all of Dr. Mullins family and friends and the rest of us closer than ever as long as its needed.

I will truly miss Dr. Mullins. He has been my doctor on 4 different occasions. The last visit was in March. He did surgery on me and later skin graph. He was a wonderful doctor and always so carrying for his patients. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and staff. God Bless. RIP Dr. Mullins you will be dearly missed.

bout 15 or so years ago, I was having dinner with some family members at Calvert's when my father began choking on his steak. Multiple people including Dr. Mullins (who was at the next table with several others including Joe Still) attempted the Heimlich (sp) to no avail. My father was so close to death when Dr. Mullins preformed an emergency tracheotomy on the floor of the restaurant and saved my dad's life. I will never forget that.

My heart is so saddened by the sudden loss of Dr. Mullins. I remember him as Dr. Still's PA and then became a wonderful caring doctor carrying on Dr. Still's Legacy. He was a wonderful light in this world. I pray for the family much comfort and peace in the days ahead.

Dr. Mullins was a extremely gifted doctor. I had the privilege and honor to be treated by him for a dog bite to my face. He was compassionate and caring and as a result of his expertise, I have no scars. My sincere sympathy goes out to his family. Please know he will be remembered by all the patients he treated.

I am one of those he helped save. It was earlier this year when I was airlifted to JMSBC with necrotizing fasciitis from Savannah. Dr. Mullins performed numerous procedures on my leg. Today I am walking without assistance because of him. I am eternally grateful. My sincere condolences to his family and JMSBC. I pray God's comfort and peace for you.

I had the honor of working with this wonderful man with the Trident Medical Burn Clinic and in the main OR. He was always kind and gentle and though soft spoken his sincere concern never left his eyes. Prayers for peace and comfort for your family Dr. Mullins.

Dr. Mullins was a most remarkable person as well as a great doctor. As I was in the ICU unit at Doctors Hospital in September, 2017, my husband remembers him sitting next to him and with my husband quite worried, asked him about who should he contact to check on her. Dr. Mullins said look at your phone. You call me. I am your contact. I was at the hospital for at least 4 weeks and he never failed to answer my husbands call. Also for the year after that when I was still in his care. I know he saved my life. He treated all his patients the same and with dignity. I have never met a more caring doctor. He was truly extraordinary. Just a real human being that loved people. He will be missed greatly.

I was very saddened to hear this news. Since then I have heard from a number of people I know with stories of how much he helped them or a family member or friend. All the people walking around whose lives were helped or saved because of him are a living tribute that few people in this world will ever have. Dr Mullins was a friend to everyone he met. Working with Dr Mullins in the burn unit and wound clinic was always a wonderful experience. He had a way of always making you smile. Was Dr Fred Mullins a son of Dr Frank Mullins, a Pathologist whose home was in Evans, Georgia? Dr Frank Mullins had exactly the same personal concern and care as Dr Fred Mullins as evidenced by his concern and care for my Father during the last week of his life in 1962. Dr Frank Mullins was tragically killed when his plane crashed during bad weather in the last half of the 60s. He and I became great friends and I miss him greatly.

Dr. Mullins was the BEST Dr. in the world. In 2012 he saved my foot due to a fracture that was infected. He was so caring in trying different treatments and was always taking time to make sure I was taken care of.I send my condolences to the family with Deepest Sympathy.
