Robert Shearer Sr.

EVANS, Ga. - Robert E. Shearer, Sr., age 57, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 17, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his children and loving wife of 40 years. Survivors include: Wife, Diane James Shearer; Son, Robert E. Shearer, Jr. and wife Jean; Daughter, Lisa Shearer Williams and husband Jimmy; Papa's Six Angels (grandchildren), Courtney, Evan and Easton Shearer, and Morgan, Trey and Addie Mae Williams, all of Evans, GA. Loving mother, Jodie Shearer, New Bern, NC; brother, Mike Shearer, New Bern, NC; sisters, Janis Hudgins, Maysville, NC, Judy Lamar, Washington, GA, and Sherry Ingram, Washington, GA; and loving mother-in-law, Nettie Thurmond James, Evans, GA. Robert was born in Philadelphia, MS, but had lived most of his life in Augusta, GA. He was the President of R.E. Shearer Construction Co., Inc. & Shear-Wood, Inc. Robert was employed by H.W. Duffie Construction, Inc. for 15 years before starting R.E. Shearer Construction in 1992. He has spent his career building numerous schools, churches and other public facilities throughout the Augusta area. The most important thing in Robert's life was his family. Every vacation and holiday was spent surrounded by his children and grandchildren who loved him dearly. Robert dedicated his time and resources to helping others in need, and especially enjoyed supporting youth athletics, particularly baseball. He was a very generous and giving person. He will be remembered as a man who touched the lives of many. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son on Davis Road with Rev. Larry Harmon and Rev. Denny Mack officiating. Burial will be at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors. Please sign the guest book at www.thomaspoteet.com.
