Roger Kight Obituary

BLYTHE, Ga. - On August 5th, 2008, while working in Ft. Myers, FL, The Master Carpenter called home his builder, Roger Corbitt Kight, 66 years old of Blythe, GA. The family will receive friends Friday, August 8, 2008, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at DeLoach Funeral Home, Hephzibah, GA. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Blythe United Methodist Church, Blythe, GA. with Rev. Kelly Hamilton officiating. Interment will be at Blythe United Methodist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Smith, Stacy Smith, James Johnson, Adrien N. Poppert, Harry Joyner, and Tom McLaughlin. Military honors will be observed. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda Kight, Blythe, GA; and their children, Paul Kight, Augusta, GA, Damion Kight, Blythe, GA, Stacy (Kathy) Smith, Augusta, GA, Donald Smith, Augusta, GA, Tara K. (Jimmy) Johnson, Sugar Hill, GA., Teri (Adrien N.) Poppert, Ft. Knox, KY, and Susanne (Tom) McLaughlin, Augusta, Ga; his six grandchildren, whom he adored and truly loved, Adrianne Sheppard, Kristin Judy, Caleb Poppert, Stacy Lynn Smith, Megan Kight, Thomas McLaughlin; and a great grandson, Mathew Henderson; his mother- in-law, Margaret B. Joyner, "Granny", Millen, GA, was a very special person in his life; and one brother, Charles Kight, Keysville, GA. "Pops", as he was so well known by his family, will be truly missed and remembered for his special hand-crafted pieces of furniture he created for his family with great love and the many hours he spent telling stories of his years growing up. To many of his co-workers who worked with him over the years, he was affectionately known as, "Get 'em up, Kight". Roger lived his life as a teacher to all who ever met him or knew him. His motto was "Leave folks a little bit better trained and wiser than when he met them". He truly lived this every day. His family will forever be saddened by the loss of our wonderful "Pops". DeLoach Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2546 GA Hwy 88, Hephzibah, GA 30815 (706-592- 5000) is serving the Kight Family. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle.com

I was very saddened to hear the news about "Pops". I know that he was a great person, father, step-father, husband and friend to many. He also was a proud veteran. He will be sorely missed.
