David Lauzen Obituary

David P. Lauzen was born on September 13, 1950 in Aurora, Illinois. On October 23, 2004, Dave suffered a severe attack of Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis. Life as he knew it changed and he suffered a continuous stream of secondary illnesses like Type I Diabetes, Peripheral and Autonomic Neuropathy, Gastroparesis as well as Charcot Foot. Through it all, he never complained and considered it training for when the pain really got serious. He passed in his sleep early Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016. Dave graduated from Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois, in 1968. He attended St. Norbert's College in DePere, Wisconsin, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business in 1971. Dave chose St. Norbert's because at the time, the drinking age in Wisconsin was 18 and this was the only campus he visited that had beer on tap in the Student Lounge. He passed the CPA Exam at the first sitting and was the youngest accountant sitting for the exam in that group. He met his wife, Jennie Johnson, at St. Norbert's and was married in 1972. Julia and Joseph were born March 26, 1976. Till the day he died, he considered the twins the best accomplishment of his lifetime. Dave started his own accounting practice, David P. Lauzen Accounting, specializing in accounting for small businesses. Joe joined the firm in 1998 literally the day after he graduated from University of Illinois. In 2007, Julie moved back to Illinois and joined the company managing the Marketing Department. In 2008, Dave realized he had accomplished his goal of having his family involved in the practice. As Joe was virtually running the company, Dave stepped aside as President and sold the practice to Joe. Dave married Sue Anne Mettel, on October 31, 1991 which was the 25th anniversary of their meeting on October 31, 1966. They remained best friends throughout their marriage and traveled world wide hunting, then fishing, and then shooting shotguns competitively. He was very happy he made it and was still above ground to celebrate their 25th/50th year anniversary this past Halloween. Dave was never one to boast of his accomplishments. However, he left a note in with his Will and other important papers addressed to "Any One Who Is Left who Gives a Crap" instructing that he be cremated with the following inscription on the box: 156 Varieties of Big Game 5 Grander (1,000+ pounds) Marlin on StandUp Gear 80 pound test line Team USA for both Sporting Clays and FITASC for 3 consecutive years All American for 6 consecutive years Loved his wife and children as well as his dog Gus This note also included instructions not to have a funeral, a memorial service, or a gathering of any kind -- underlined so many times he ripped the paper. After much debate, that wish will be honored. He is survived by his mother, Violet (Moldovan Lauzen) Colwell; his brother and his wife, Christopher J. and Sarah Longley Lauzen; his sisters Sarah E Lauzen and Martha Lauzen; his son, Joseph D and Jennifer (Hallgren) Lauzen; his daughter, Julia (Lauzen) Justus and her husband (the best son-in-law ever) Kirk Justus as well as Dave's grandchildren, Matthew (8), Emma (7) Lauzen and Jolin (4), JT (3) and Elizabeth and Wyatt (16 months) Justus. Dave was a cherished husband, beloved father, and loving grandfather. He loved to eat Icy Pops with the grandkids. It will be a sad day when they see Popsicles in the grocery store and figure out that Grandpa Dave really didn't work all afternoon making the Icy Pops just for them. He touched many lives throughout his life traveling the world big game hunting, fishing in the Mid-Atlantic, as well as shooting in World Cup Events in Australia, England, Portugal, Italy and Spain for Team USA. He will be missed by all who knew him. Arrangements entrusted to Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville, IL 60540. I wish I could have shared my campfire with this man, if only just once.

November 21, 2016

I worked for David and Sue in the late 80's early 90's as the second generation in the Comprehensive Family. My father worked for David's dad Leo Sr. It was always an enjoyable office with many tales of his many adventures with Safari Club International. His "bear" like presence, I'm sure will be missed by all.
My deepest sympathy to his family.

Having just read the note Dave left in his will, I am both laughing and crying. I can see his face and smile so clearly and actually hear him saying those words! That, and the words I dreaded to hear at our annual meetings--"Kenny, you've got to spend some money!" What an awesome man...he will truly be missed by many. Love you Dave! Our most sincere condolences to all.
