Dorothea Smith Obituary

Smith, Dorothea Louise "Dottie" Age 78, of Bristol, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. She was born on April 22, 1935 in Wauwatosa, WI, the daughter of James and Burdella (Schmidt) Bossard. Dottie was united in marriage on July 20, 1974 to James R. Smith and they spent the next 35 happy years together until his passing on June 6, 2009. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Dottie was a very active member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Yorkville, IL. She was a 1958 Nursing graduate of Presbyterian St. Luke's School of Nursing in Chicago, IL. Dottie was employed as a head nurse for many years at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL. She enjoyed golfing and bowling and loved spending time during the summer with her family and friends at her Wisconsin lake cabin. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Rick) Miller of Yorkville, IL, Patti (Don) Kraber of Coralville, IA, Julie (Greg) Kraber of Yorkville, IL, and Jim (Colleen) Smith of Aurora, IL; her grandchildren, Heidi Miller, Rick (Ashley) Miller, Heather Miller, Stefanie Miller, Erika (David) Camerlengo, Jay (Katrina) Kraber, Adam (Kari) Kraber, Tiffany (Justin Conrad) Kraber, Ashley (Mike) Hodous, Kyle Kraber, Abbi Smith, and Becki Smith; her great-grandchildren, Rachel Kraber, Carter Kraber, Cole Miller, McKenna Miller, and Liahna Kraber; her brothers-in-law, Charles Smith Jr. and Harold Smith; her sister-in-law, Marlene Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Burdella Bossard; her husband, Jim Smith; her brother, Jim Bossard; her brother-in-law, Arthur Smith; her sisters-in-law, Muriel Moore, June Smith and Doris Smith; and her nephew, David Smith. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Homes, 410 E. Countryside Pkwy., Yorkville, IL with Pastor Michael Stoner officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bristol, IL. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville, IL. The Stone's lived next door to Dottie & Jim in Bristol for years. We had good conversations along with her good cooking. I became a nurse late in life and we talked about our experices in hospital setting. She was down to earth and fun to be with. Know the kids well. Not much to say except I feel their pain.

Dottie was a wonderful caring friend. She had a heart for nursing and nurturing. She was sensisitive to those who needed her and often visited home bound friends and people from her church family.
