Dorothy Vanthournout Obituary

Vanthournout, Dorothy A. Age 79 of Geneva passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Delnor Community Hospital surrounded by family. She was born March 26, 1932 daughter of Demi and Evelyn (McBreen) Nelson in Geneva, Illinois. Dorothy attended Geneva schools, graduating from Geneva High School in 1949. She was a longtime secretary of Sixth Street and Fourth Street Schools. Dorothy was a dedicated volunteer serving as Cub Scout den mother, Brownie leader and later as a volunteer at the Geneva History Center. Dorothy loved to relax with a good book and enjoyed vacationing in St. Germain, Wisconsin and spending time with her grandkids. She is survived by her sons Stephen (Lynn) of St. Paul, Minnesota and Jeff (Mitzi) of Chanhassen, Minnesota; and daughter Lynn (Brian) Knauf of Aurora. She was a devoted grandmother to eleven grandchildren Lyndsey, Lauren, Lesley and Stephen VanThournout, Matthew (Jana) Vanthournout, Kathryn (Nick) Corona and Cody VanThournout, Benjamin, Daniel, Nathan and Sarah Knauf; and three great grandchildren Cooper Corona, Jordan Corona and Gabriel Aguirre. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur, Jr, parents, brother Robert Nelson and sister Dolores Jean Nelson. Funeral service will be held Saturday February 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Malone Funeral Home 324 East State Street (Rt. 38) Geneva, Father Bernard Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Geneva. Visitation will be held Saturday February 11 from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the Malone Funeral Home, Geneva.
