- Earl Eugene Cummins, 90, formerly of Fairhope, PA went to be with his Savior and Lord on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. Earl was born in Fairhope, PA on March 11, 1932, the seventh of 13 children to Homer and Salena (McKim) Cummins. Earl married Shirley Rosel la Shumaker also of Fairhope in 1953, and together they raised their 5 children in Middle River, MD. He retired from Bethlehem Steel and returned to Fairhope to live in the home he built, "the second-best place". He proudly
served in the United States Air Force as a sheet metal worker repairing damaged airplanes during the Korean War and had a life-long passion for flying and aircraft. He piloted his own powered parachute with his co-pilot, Bernie Shaffer, for the last time on October 6, 2012, at eighty years old. Over the years, he hosted magnitudes of railfans and fishermen in
the A-frame on his property. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time on his property giving tractor rides to his grandchildren on his beloved tractor 'Alice.' He never met a stranger and never hesitated to help someone in need, be it family, friends, or community. He never let his advanced years keep him from traveling
across the country to welcome a new grandchild, supporting his loved ones in their multiple endeavors, or from fellowshipping with and working alongside his many friends and family. Earl was a fierce competitor at pretty much everything he did especially playing Phase 10, shuffleboard, and his famous foot races. Earl's travels included
trips to Israel, Belarus, Russia, and China and multiple mission trips to Andros Island, Bahamas. He was an active member of several churches through the years including Middle River Baptist, Fairhope Community,
and Faith Community Church. He was an active volunteer at New Life Bible Camp for over 20 years. In September 2004, after entering a burning building and rescuing its inhabitant Earl was awarded the Carnegie Medal from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. His gift of generosity and hospitality was simply an expression of Christ's love in his life.
Earl was preceded in death by his brothers; Edwin, Homer, James, Blair, and Clarence 'Arlo', his sisters; Joanne Miller, Ruth Goodson, and Sara Emerick, and his son-in-law, Dale Klemm. Earl is survived by his wife and
treasure of 68 years, ShirleyCummins, his sons; Steven and wife Lisa Cummins of Lexington, SC, Stanley and wife Wendy Cummins of Stewartstown, PA, and Kelly and wife Kelly Cummins of Colorado Springs, CO, his daughters: Lorraine and husband Terry Hannah of Darlington,
MD, and Amy Klemm ofLaVale. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and family and friends too numerous to mention.
His body was donated to medical science per his wish es. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Fairhope Community Church on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
