Joaquin Chu Obituary
Joaquin "Jun" G. Chu Jr. went home to the Lord on October 5, 2025 and joined his parents, Joaquin Sr. and Luz Ballada Chu, and son, John Kenneth Chu in eternal life. Rejoice with us as we celebrate his legacy of family, hard work, and community.
Joaquin was born on January 3, 1946 in Tondo Manila Philippines and was the eldest of six children. His family owned lumber and bakery businesses where he carried much responsibility. He attended Philippine Chinese High School and Mapua Institute of Technology where he studied Mechanical Engineering. At the time of his postsecondary education, he managed a fleet of trucks at his family's lumber company and often purchased gas from a local gas station. It was there that he met his wife, Natividad "Naty" while she worked at her brother's gas station. Soon thereafter, they courted and the two were married in 1966. In 1976, the couple immigrated to the United States to create new opportunities for their family.
From 1978 to 1991, the couple owned and operated a total of four stores in Stockton, CA. In 1991, Jun and his family moved to the Antelope Valley. From 1995 to 2009, he owned and operated Manila Seafood Center in Lancaster, CA. Jun dedicated over 30 years to being a business owner. To many, he is known as Mang Jun. He is described by his customers and the community as kind, welcoming, funny, dependable, courteous, and attentive.
Joaquin loved his family deeply and was devoted to his wife in marriage for nearly 59 years. He was most proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, of course, his wife and most importantly, Jesus Christ. He was an incredibly hard worker. His knowledge and ear for the mechanics of vehicles was impressive. Jun could listen to an engine or a transmission and tell you what was wrong and how to fix it. He found joy in mechanics, gardening, and games. His legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, business owner, and community builder will live on through his family and those whose lives he touched.
Although we will miss him dearly, we take peace in his salvation with our Savior Jesus Christ and consolation in our memories of him. Joaquin is survived by his wife, Natividad "Naty"Chu; four children, Joaquin "Willie" Chu III (Monica); Miriam Paguyo (Richard); Timothy Chu; and Grace Cumberbatch (Courtney); seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Family and Friends are welcome on October 24, 2025 to attend the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. held at The Highlands Church, 39625 20th Street West, Palmdale,CA.
