Mark Smith Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Alan Smith, who peacefully left us on April 4, 2025, at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in Lancaster, CA.

Mark is survived by his wife, Diane (Freitas) Smith; his sons, Brian (Kelleen) Smith and Bret (Daryl Ann) Smith; his grandchildren, Haidyn, Conrad, Lilah, Alistair, Skyler, and Westin; his sister, Sandie Fitzgibbons; and his brother, Barry Smith. He is also survived by extended family, including Laura (Nick) Jones-Puder, Kaley (Tyler) Brooks, Briana Booth and Camille, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Irene Smith, his sister, Nanci Duncan, and his brother, Jody Smith.

Mark had a varied and fulfilling career. His journey began in the grocery industry, but it was in the automotive business where he truly made his mark. Known as the "face" of Attwood and Sons, he earned the respect of his customers for his extensive knowledge, professionalism, and genuine kindness. His rapport with coworkers developed into long-lasting friendships, and his work ethic was admired by all. Outside of work, when he ran into a customer (which he always did), he may not have remembered their name, but he always knew their face and the car they drove. Mark's next chapter took him to Northrop in Palmdale, CA, where he continued to thrive in his career, building a reputation as a reliable and skilled employee. After several years, he retired to enjoy life, spending more time with friends, camping, and pursuing his passions.

Outside of work, Mark was a man of many talents. He was a gifted musician, playing guitar and singing in various bands, and always enjoyed "jamming" with family and friends. He was also a skilled RC pilot, teaching others to fly helicopters and planes. Mark loved spending time with friends and family, whether it was riding his dirt bike, watching Super Motocross events, racing RC cars at various tracks, or volunteering at the AV Fair Rural Olympics. He was known in the valley for his warm smile, infectious laugh, and positive attitude. Mark's kindness and generosity touched everyone who met him. No one could pick out the perfect greeting card with such thoughtfulness as Mark did for those he cared about.

Mark's life was a testament to living fully and with heart. His big spirit, vibrant energy, and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I hope your "last ride" into Heaven was a beautiful one, babe. You will forever be with us, every day.

Blessings to Mark's family and friends. Thank you for publishing Mark's Obituary as it keeps us fortunate to have known Mark, but on the periphery of Mark's Big and Caring Life, to lovingly remember Mark and take a moment to give God thanks for Mark. May the Holy Spirit fill the void left by Mark's passing and pour out abundant hope, joy and love over all who knew and miss Mark. Amen.
Godspeed Mark. Sierra Automotive and Towing always counted you as one of the good guys and a helpful friend.

Mark you were my first kiss. It was at the roller rink and you were such a good skater. I was from Park View School and you from Piute but I ended up moving to Piute when my family moved . You will be so missed by so many people.
