Robert SLADE Obituary

Robert Lee Slade completed his goal of living to his 85th birthday.
Born June 12, 1937, passed June 12, 2022. It's between the dash that makes the difference.
Bob was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an awesome friend, Air Force veteran, Los Angeles County Airport manager retiree, Kern County Sheriff reserve deputy retiree and Desert Search and Rescue member.
Bob loved life. He was a founding director of Rosamond Exotic Feline Breeding Compound, Edward's Air Force Civilian Military Support Group and Antelope Valley Republican Assembly. Bob was Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Rotary president and honorary Rosamond mayor.
Born in Wisconsin, he moved his family to Southern California. He never let grass grow under his feet. Bob was an avid pilot and traveler. He finally rooted in Rosamond where he met his soulmate Michele Gallagher Behrens. In 2007, they married and attended Hope Chapel, Quartz Hill. Bob was active in food ministry. He loved his Sunday morning coffee and donuts with many elder buddies, solving the world's problems.
Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Hope Chapel, 6015 West Ave J-8, Quartz Hill. Coffee and donuts. The celebration continues at the Slade's home. No flowers please. Donations in Bob's honor to Civ-Mil, Desert Search and Rescue or EFBC.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Michele, son Mark and daughter Denise (Jack) and favorite mother-in-law Patty Gardner. Loved by bonus kids Traci and Travis, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends. One can say "We never lost Bob because we know where he went. Heaven is a better place with new angel Robert Slade."

Bob was one of my Reserve Deputies at the Kern County Sheriff's Office, Rosamond Substation. He was one of the key individuals that made my job easy. As solid as solid can be, trusted, and sought out for advice. And HE KNEW EVERYONE!! Which led to many interesting times at Edwards Air force Base and all around the Antelope Valley. He was half of my Bob and Bob (Pengilley) duo. I can't imagine what it would be like to not have them at my substation. Rip my friend, and on to bigger and better things!!

Bob was a lovely, larger than life, person. Derek and I had the privilege of meeting and spending time with Bob when he, Michele, and Patty traveled through Indiana on one of the many fun trips he took with his family. We'll always remember Bob entertaining us with all of his interesting stories - he had such a long, productive, rich life! Sending love to Michele, and Bob's kids and grandkids and many loved ones. - Amy Van Ostrand

Bob was a wonderful person with a heart and personality to match. So sorry to hear Bob is moving on to blue sky's and soft clouds, but his spirit is with us all. May we all share a smile like Bob always had for all of us including strangers.

Bob was fun loving person. Our kids grew up calling him "Grandpa airplanes" because of his work at the airport and air shows. Condolences to the family. Bob will be missed.
