1941 - 2020
Sinnadurai MOORTHY Obituary
Moorthy excelled in his academic endeavors and obtained his medical degree in Sri Lanka in 1967. He completed postgraduate training at Bronx-Lebanon and Coney Island Hospitals in New York and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Boston University in Massachusetts. Upon finishing his training, he moved to the Antelope Valley as its first gastroenterologist in 1976.
He was a dedicated and caring physician who was loved and respected by his patients and colleagues. He served the people of the Antelope Valley for over 40 years and was on the staff of Lancaster Community Hospital, Antelope Valley Hospital, and the Palmdale Regional Health Center.
He was a visionary, a pioneer, and an entrepreneur. He was a founder of the Sierra Medical Plaza, Sierra Medical Group, Antelope Valley Health Foundation, Ana Verde Medical Center, Sierra Immediate Care Center, and Sierra Gastroenterology. His community service extended beyond medicine and he was also a founder of the Children's Center of the Antelope Valley, a founding director of the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, and Campaign Chairman of the Antelope Valley Chapter of the United Way in 1985. Moorthy will be remembered by his patients, staff, colleagues and friends for his kindness, compassion, sense of humor and boundless generosity. He was a loving husband and father and source of unending support to his extended family.
Moorthy is survived by his wife Shanthi, daughters Asha and Geetha and son-in-law Justin Sonny Marshall, his sister Nageswary Kanagaratnam (wife of the late Visuvanathar Kanagaratnam), his brother Muthulingam Sinnadurai and sister-in-law Vanmathi Muthulingam, and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the current pandemic restrictions, the funeral will be private and only for the family. However, the service, which will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 10am PST, will be live streamed. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to designated charities may be made. Dr Moorthy was our Dr for 20 years. He was not only a very good Dr, but a very friendly caring man. He is missed still. He left a lasting impression on us.

Dr Moorthy was my Dr for many years ! He was caring , patient (he had to be with me) I have health phobia !
But Dr Moorthy went out of his way to comfort me . He was the Best Doctor I ever had .
Really good Doctor and I was saddened when a friend told me he passed .
Thank you Dr for really listening to me and making me feel comfortable. Great care ! I have found no one better. You will be missed by me for sure . I think of you often . Good Man ! Great Doctor , The Best ! RIP Dear Man . We lost a Great Dr in 2020

Doctor Moorthy was such a kind soul and an amazing healer. He always had a smile whenever he walked in the room and could make anyone feel better. The Antelope Valley has benefitted so much from this one person.

I am saddened to learn of Dr. Moorthy’s death. He was so kind, so caring and so humble. His smile was as genuine as he was, truly a wonderful man and physician, an honorable man. Dr. Moorthy was a doctor and wonderful friend to my entire family. My parents were Lou and Nellie Bozigian and they also loved him very much. I cannot express how amazing and helpful he was to us during incredibly difficult times. His kindness and warmth will always be remembered and appreciated. Gentle, kindhearted and Generous are just a few words that describe the impact Dr Moorthy has had on our family.
We were privileged to see first hand the love and care Jesus shows us - through this man Dr Moorthy and also his lovely wife Claudia , by how they cared for a Dear friend, Moni Kennedy, in her time of need before her passing. Also Dr Moorthy embraced us with medical care, empathy and compassion when our son so desperately needed it.
May we pass on his legacy of Love for others in tangible and impactful ways as Dr Moorthy has modeled for us.

Dr. Moorthy was one of the kindest, most gentle people I have ever known. Working with him almost daily at AVH was a true pleasure. He always treated the staff and his patients with kindness and respect. Was truly one of the "Greats"...He will be very much missed.
