Alicia Garibay Obituary
beloved wife, mother, sister, tia, friend and devoted servant of Christ passed away very peacefully on August 25, 2014. Born in Scottsbluff, NE on April 22, 1956 to Concepcion Vallejo and Eduardo Torres. She moved to Tempe, Arizona in 1977. She received her Bachelors degree from ASU and began her career at AllState Insurance where she stayed for 28 years, retiring in 2011. She married Manuel Garibay on May 26, 1984 and is survived by her husband, and daughters Celina Diaz (Carlos Diaz) and Eliana Garibay. Her six siblings are (Rosemary, Joe, Hope, Terri, Lupe and Ed). Alicia was an avid painter, inventor, writer and activist. She enjoyed being a true fashionista, traveling the world, throwing the best parties, storytelling, learning every game, watching all sports and staying on top of all world and local events and trends. Her family brought her the most joy, embraced as the glue of both the Torres and Garibay families. She was active in Brazos Abiertos orphanage as a fundraiser. She carried the Aloha (welcoming spirit) in her home and in her heart, making everyone feel as if she was their best friend. She spoke of forgiveness and love always - and lived a full and rich life, always keeping God at the center of everything. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Mortuary, 1562 E. Baseline Rd in Mesa, AZ. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 440 E. Elliot Rd., Gilbert, AZ. I mostly knew Alicia through daily conversations with Celina. I knew that Alicia was strong and smart, she was funny and adventures. But mostly Alicia was beautiful. She gave wholeheartedly and forgave with all her heart. Her joyous spirit was tireless when it came to planning and making precious memories with family and friends. Her daughters adore her.

I knew Alicia for only a short time and was fortunate enough to visit with her before her passing. Her charasmatic persona will forever be a fixture in my life. I will strive to practice religously and daily the unconditional Love and compassion this beautiful human being demonstrated in the two days I spent with her.
