Amanda Reitan Obituary

Reitan, Amanda Jakober
Amanda Jakober Reitan, 94, a longtime Scottsdale resident, passed away in the comfort of Hospice of Arizona on February 20, 2009. Amanda, known to many as "Jake", was born on January 22, 1915 in Hosmer, South Dakota, the youngest of 7 girls and 1 boy. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital nursing school in Aberdeen, South Dakota and served as a nurse in the Army Air Force Nurses Corp during WWII where she attained the rank of First Lieutenant. She married Gordon Reitan in 1947 and resided in Boyd and Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving to Arizona in 1962. Jake was a fabulous cook, a world traveler and an avid sports fan. Her joyful demeanor and dedication to serving others inspired those around her. She is survived by her husband Gordon, son Steven (Susann), daughter Marianne Lerdall (Michael); grandchildren Kimberly Lerdall, Blake Lerdall and Hillary Reitan. A celebration of Amanda's life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Messinger Indian School Mortuary. 7601 E. Indian School Rd. Scottsdale. 85251. In lieu of flowers, a nursing scholarship will be established in Amanda's name.
