Charles Decker Obituary
Charles "Chuck"Decker of Mesa, AZ passed away on September 24, 2013 in Gilbert, AZ. He was 86 years old. Chuck was born on July 24, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio to Earl and Nadine Decker. Chuck joined the US Navy in 1945, after graduating from Fayette Township High School. He served from 1945-49 on many different ships in the Pacific Region during the end of WW2. He returned to attend barber college and began barbering in New Goshen, IN, opening Chuck's Barber Shop in 1952. He and his family moved to Mesa, AZ in 1976 where he opened the Mr. Mesa Barber Shop and continued barbering until his retirement in 1993. Chuck enjoyed his retirement by keeping busy building a second home in Heber, AZ, pitching horseshoes and making silver jewelry. He was a life-long baseball fan, playing in his younger years and holding season tickets for the Cubs Spring Training during recent years. Chuck was an active member of the Heber/Overgaard American Legion Post #86. Chuck is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Elaine Decker; one daughter, Jane (Glen) Messacar of Tempe, AZ; one son Mike (Laurie) Decker of Gold Canyon, AZ and 4 grandchildren; Jordan (Mike) Rogatchev, Hayden Messacar, Michael (Devon) Decker and Christopher Decker;and one sister Pat (Bill) Woodard and 2 nieces. Visitation will be held on Thursday October 3, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ 85233. Funeral Services will be held on Friday October 4, 2013 at 10:00AM at 1st United Methodist Church of Gilbert 331 S Cooper Rd, Gilbert AZ Interment will be at Valley of the Sun Memorial Park 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler AZ following Services.
